I did a little research on Roy Jones Jr. and the opposition he fought as a SMW. Jones was in essense fighting in the 168 lb division from 1993 until 1996. Keys: This content is protected This content is protected The year end rankings of 1992 looked like this: 1: Michael Nunn 2: Iran Barkley 3: Chris Eubank 4: Victor Cordoba 5: Nigel Benn 6: Tim Littles 7: Darrin Van Horn This content is protected 9: Frankie Liles 10: Frank Nicotra He fought Thornton in 1995. 1993: This content is protected 2: Michael Nunn 3: Chris Eubank 4: Nigel Benn 5: Tim Littles 6: Darrin Van Horn 7: Frankie Liles This content is protected This content is protected 10: Vincenzo Nardiello 1994: Jones enters the list at no. 1 after beating Toney. 1: Roy Jones Jr. 2: Nigel Benn 3: Chris Eubank 4: Frankie Liles This content is protected 6: Tim Littles 7: Michael Nunn 8: Ray Close 9: Graciano Rocchigiani This content is protected 1995: 1: Roy Jones Jr. 2: Nigel Benn 3: Steve Collins 4: Frankie Liles 5: Tim Littles This content is protected This content is protected 8: Henry Wharton 9: Michael Nunn 10: Ray Close 1996: 1: Roy Jones Jr. 2: Frankie Liles 3: Steve Collins This content is protected 5: Robin Reid 6: Henry Wharton 7: Michael Nunn 8: Vincenzo Nardiello 9: Joseph Kiwanuka This content is protected At the end of 1996 Jones had moved up. So Jones work after 4 years at 168 lb consist of an excellent win over Toney and not much else: Toney Thornton Pazienza (LOL) Byrd Brannon Jones never fought a top 3 opponent after Toney. He had 6 fights at 168 after beating him. Of those fights he beat an unranked Thornton, a suspected juiced lightweight in Pazienza, a past it Byrd, a never was in Sosa, a young non-threat in Lucas and a veteran of 16 fights in Brannon. So the deserving fighters Jones didn't fight is these guys: Nunn Benn Eubank Collins Barkley Cordoba Littles Van Horn Liles Nardiello Close Rocchigianni Nicotra Let's face it. A Nunn or a Benn or a Eubank or a Liles or even a Collins would have been real nice. (I hope I didn't miss anyone )
Cannot agree more , Benn , Nunn and a McClellen were all available . I watched his only real win against Toney , who was weight drained to **** and there for the taking (stoppage) but he was always cautious , against a Nigel Benn I think he would have been tested to his absolute.
This just goes to show how ridiculously overrated RJJ is. It's quite easy to look like a superstar when fighting lowcaliber opposition.
Should have fought Littles. Probably would have been an easy win but Littles deserved the shot an it would have been a decent addition to Jones legacy.
outstanding research :deal expect a job offer in the team elite research department by the end of next week :happy
Toney destroyed Littles in 94. This exact thread was already made I think earlier this year, so this guy just copied someone elses post and made it his own. He is an undeserving team elite member, no way he gets drafted. I made a thread not too long ago about the fighters Jones supposedly ducked, check it out. Money was offered to some but the fights didn't happen for some reason.
This thread is an excellent peice, that shows with all those great SMW names why Jones ran out of the division, running to the easier LHW division where he only had Michalczewski to make excuses to avoid. In the excellent SMW division Jones would have been beaten by a few names. Just imagine what would have happend had he been there when Calzaghe had of entered the ratings. Jones would have been throughly destroyed. All these Nuthuggers say Calzaghe should have moved up, but he was in the tougher division and Jones kept saying he was going to maove down to SMW to make the fight. Still The Calzaghe fight with Jones would never have happend, as Jones would have been a beaten fighter by the time Joe would have arrived
Unless you went under a different username it's not your piece, i'll find the thread and prove it because i'm sure I posted in it somewhere.
