Canelo had once mentioned there were about 6 pro fights he did in Mexico, very early in his career that were never recorded or properly sanctioned (?) and should have been on his record. Usyk only has 88-12 amateur record on BoxRec, seems a bit unfair and strange that 99% of his losses are there but over 250 wins are missing? 335-15 from what i've seen should be recorded. Any reasons why / anyone have any more info about this?
I've noticed for awhile that BoxRec is great about getting amateur losses for top guys, but terrible about getting their wins. No idea why other than that maybe they're better documented typically
I believe many old-time fighters have a ton of fights missing. This is not surprising. And some of these "Debut" fights are pure nonsense, in my opinion. I do not blame BoxRec for that. It would take an enormous amount of digging to uncover the missing fights, and I doubt even then if all of them could be recovered.
Was researching Joseph "Jusuf Saalam / Henry Hank" Harrison earlier and according to multiple sources he lost a ten rounder UD to Claude Herman "Humphrey" McBride, but it isn't on either of their BoxRec pages. I think there are a lot more gaps than we realize, despite the longtime painstaking efforts of many historians and editors that have contributed at BR. I think the more modern you get, the fewer omissions there are going to be, though. Outside maybe an obscure small hall show in Paraguay or Mongolia or Ghana here and there never getting updated into the database.
Not just Canelo. Other Mexican fighters have had missing fights. I remember around 2014 that Juan Francisco Estrada suddenly had a couple of wins added to his record, something like 3-4 wins.
