6-5. 82" reach, 4 time Golden Gloves champ, beat Tony Tubbs in the unpaid ranks... a veritable Adonis with all the physical gifts God offers his favorite athletes... If he were around in 1950, coming into his own and undistracted by the street and gangs and drugs... How long until he is the heavyweight champ? How long does he retain the title?

It isn't Mitch Green without the gangs and drugs

But to answer your question I reckon he could be another Carmine Vingo, though instead he just goes the distance with Rocky when noone expects him to

Does laziness, lack of inspiration and the tendency to cherry pick tomato cans somehow cease to exist in the 50’s?? Well if it does and assuming he is awarded with a Cadillac career plan including trainers, cutting edge gym, early access to steroids and his initials engraved on his towels then I guess he becomes the first man to go 50-0 !!!

He might be an in and out fringe contender during the decade,it wasn't a deep one for heavies.

Mitch Green would do wonderful as long as 8-22-1 Bruce Johnson or 5-11-2 Miguel Otero was not around in the same decade - Did they have crack cocaine in the 50's

If Tyson couldn't stop Green, Rocky Marciano wouldn't.

Green had no power, though, so Rocky, despite the massive size difference, would outwork Green for a UD.

I think Patterson would also outwork him for a UD.

Green's main positive attribute was durability.

    He was an average boxer.

While Green was not a very good boxer, the above addresses the 90s Mitch Green who was seven or eight years removed from going the distance with Berbick and Tyson. He was full blown shot by then. He was inactive for many years after going 10 with a young, but very dangerous Mike Tyson.

nothing he did after 1986 should be factored into any discussion... Agreed. But even looking at a prime Green ( whatever that is ) he has absolutely NOTHING in the way of a good win. Of his 19 victories only 7 or 8 of those men had winning record and even THEY were journeyman or tomato cans.. He even drew with one of them. Yes he went ten rounds with a 19 year old Tyson who had been a pro just over a year and Trevor Berbick which seems to be the banner moments of his career.. Everett Bigfoot Martin and Mike Jameson went the distance with some damn good fighters too

Let's not forget Don Cokkell was rated number two in this decade.

I can't see Mitch Green going very far, in any era where I have a clear idea of the contenders!
