Let's say he came along twenty years later than he did (with other major life events and variables remaining intact, but pushed up accordingly. So, he's born in '77 and still has 180 amateur fights and a rough upbringing as a gang member, and turns pro shortly before turning 24 - now in the year 2000 instead of 1980.) How does he fit in the heavyweight picture after the turn of the century? Does he fare better than he did in the 80's? Worse? About the same? Judging by his performance in a 10-round loss to prime Mike Tyson - in which he allegedly didn't even put forth a serious effort in the ring or in training - he obviously he had some talent, and pretty good punch resistance (with his one "stoppage" loss being an utter farce; the circumstances merit looking into if you're not familiar with them) but his career went bust anyway. Could this pattern be altered by placing him in a different era (meaning no Tyson fight, meaning no resentment over being "lowballed", meaning perhaps no 7 year layoff during what are very good years for a heavyweight) or was Blood doomed to victimize himself with his own bombastic and difficult personality?
I won't answer Intentional's question -- I'll leave that to the other pugilistic scholars on this board. But I will say this: Mitch Blood Green is one truly, bad, bad, man....mean assed tough guy. I hear that Blood gets big-time respect on both sides of the bars. Mitch "Blood" Green: I salute you!
Mitch Green is a Grade D skinny-ass tomato-can with a record of 19-6-1 he went 10 rounds with Peak 1986 Tyson And I gave him 3 rounds. I cannt see a bum like him doing any better in teh stronger era of the 2000s - he certianly wouldnt beat any top 10 ring mag ranked fighters And Lewis, Wlad, Vitali, Briggs, Grant, Golota would probs stop him.
I've seen some peg him as having one of the greatest HW chins of all time. I know Tyson hit him so ****ing hard he knocked out multiple teeth.
Watched him win the N.Y. Gloves for several years. No one's ever been able to give me a reason that he's never without a toothpick in his mouth outside the ring.
Who can shed some light on the first loss of Green's pro career, by decision to Berbick? Even just knowing the official scores would be nice; a round-by-round report would be even better; seeing some video would be ideal. Unless that one was a total shutout (and even if it was), my instinct is that a transplanted prime Green would not be outboxed by "any contending heavyweight of the 2000's". He showed some flashes of real talent in his supposedly sub-100% losing effort against prime Mike.
mitch green did not win any rounds against tyson....dude....not even close..........just like bonecrusher smith didnt win 1 rd against tyson...........i understand u a tyson hater....but stop preaching lies.....:-(
***** Green was a hustler, cheat, con man, jaggov, robber, dope dealer and a pimp during his life....... Boxing was a part-time thing for ***** Green to do while between jobs that consisted of breaking the law..... They build jails' for dude's like ***** Green...... WORD! MR.BILL
What if he'd buckled down and really committed to the sport, Bill - straightened out and got his head totally in the game? Just from the Tyson fight alone, there are things about him that impress me (beyond just his ability to take a shot from 80's Tyson, which is very impressive in itself). He did manage to achieve a fair amount of acclaim as an amateur in the midst of his thug lifestyle; that discipline obviously didn't carry over for him in the paid ranks. It's an interesting "What if" proposition to me. It's frustrating to see even a shred of genuine talent get completely pissed away.
***** Green never had the mental make-up to take boxing seriously..... He was an enigma...... His best asset was, his size and height..... In his fight with Tyson in 1986, Green was 6' 5" tall and in the 230s.... He was a big mother... He did a lot of holding against Tyson.... At best, I gave Green "3" rds in that 10 rounder on HBO... Green held and grabbed Tyson like an octopus...... MR.BILL
Had fast hands and took a punch well but his mental make up was such that he was bound for failure. I don't see him winning a belt but I can see a scenario where a weaker post 2000 era where he serves as a good gate keeper. But Green winning 3 rounds against Tyson? I though Ken Morita was bad.
