Liston is at the bar enjoying a beer when Mitch Green comes in and confronts Liston. Liston tries to ignore him, but Green snatches Listons beer and throws it in his face. He then calls Liston the slur for homosexuals. What happens next?

    Liston is arrested for manslaughter.

Exactly how I envisage it. Liston was a genuine hardcase whereas Green has always come over to me as a prime example of the maxim "Empy vessells make the most noise"

I would contribute to Listons defense.

Green wouldn't step to Liston. Mike was a different story.

Never happening. Green wouldn't go near a dude like Sonny.

Liston was a mobbed up guy, he’d beat up Green certainly in the ring just I doubt Green is going to want to brawl with someone with so many ties to the Mafia, depending who is in his company on the day be might get shot … Tyson knew people but he was just a street guy and had Mitch somehow won he’d probably just let it go or go looking for a rematch.

I’m going to add something other than Liston beating Green to death… do we know how either of these guys fight in the street? What film do we base it on? Do we assume Sonny’s chances of beating Mitch on his fights with civilians and cops? Or assumed prison brawl against randoms? We can see them box and yeah Sonny might kill him in the ring… but do we even know who had more experience in this realm? This is essentially just no holds barred fighting on the pavement, street, side walk right? At the least I guess we can say Green was probably more familiar with street violence? He was a gang leader in the Black Spades and was involved with the Bloods? He was about that sort of living since he was a kid he’s also 6ft5 and over 230lbs… we also know Mitch was on drugs for the infamous run in with Mike, which could be a plus if you’ve ever seen a meth addict fight you really do have to kill them… I believe it was in Tyson’s most recent book he says after he thought he killed Mitch but he popped off the floor like Frankenstein and wouldn’t stop coming so he took off worried he’d have to kill him, but in another or the same situation Tyson shattered his hand, If Mitch kept coming at Tyson with a broken hand popping off the floor maybe he could’ve overwhelmed him at the cost of all his brain cells lol.

Yeah, what's the social context of this fight? They're both criminals, who were connected to different criminal groups separated by 20+ years. Who's going to escalate? Who has an entourage? Weapons? Are either on parole at the time of the fight, which they'd have to worry about? Are they intoxicated? Who's more likely to hit the other without warning? Why are they even fighting?

And even if all of these questions are answered, I have zero faith that Classic has enough experience with analyzing street fights between pro boxers that they can answer this question with any semblance of accuracy. How much footage of pro fighters having street fights have the people here even seen, beyond Berbick/Holmes (which was ridiculous)?

If there's anybody on Classic who's a current or ex-bouncer, or police officer trained in analyzing deadly force encounters, maybe ask them.

Sonny was also known to be intimidated by nut jobs, a 6’5 230 pound crackhead tweaking could very well be too much for the guy lol

Whoever brings the knife to the fistfight or the gun to the knife fight.

I’ll take Mitch to be the guy who does one or the other.

Very true from Journeyman & Cross Trainer about the gulf between a street fight & Boxing match. It’s very, very vast. I would not back either man based on who boxed better, personally. That has the potential to count for less than nought.

Boxing is one of the most useful things you can know for a street fight. Watch some fight videos on X, alot of it is wild swings and it's very obvious they don't know what they are doing. Knowing how to throw a punch with proper technique can put you ahead of the curve.
