That's right, what it says on the tin. It's almost a cert that the winner gets the obligatory shot at the WBO and will have to take on Puerto Rico's exciting Roman Martinez. So, first and foremost, how do you see the Mitchell/Burns fight going? Secondly, can the winner usurp Martinez OR will they go elsewhere? Remember that prior to his lay-off, Mitchell had a very good IBF ranking. Here's the current scene: 130 WBA Linares WBC Soto (moving up to take on Valero)/ WBC Interim GutiƩrrez IBF Guerrero WBO Martinez Other decent worldclass opponents: Klassen Baloyi Fana What's the next logical fight for the winner of this domestic megafight? Which fight do you want to see?:good
Burns to beat Mitchell then to take on Martinez. There's a very good chance he could beat Martinez too. If he does he'll have a couple of defenses at home and if he manages to pull through could end up taking on someone like Linares and getting beat ?? However there's the possibility that he gets beat by either Mitchell or Martinez although I dont see the 'former' happening :good
I still think Mitchell has the beating of Burns (sorry Billy, no disrespect intended). The only thing that worries me is the long lay-off due to the injury. Yeah, Mitchell's had a tune-up but it was nowhere near on the same level that Burns is on. An interesting fight for sure. As for Martinez, I really like the guy- he picks his shots and seems well-schooled. I think a fight with either Mitchell or Burns would be a fantastic fight. BTW, this thread has bombed:conf.
Well everything is on PBF-JMM at the moment (for obvious reasons) so I thought I'd do something different:conf. Ah well.
we really cannot say how they would fare seeing as none of them have fought anything beyond domestic level. Personally i think Mitchell could beat all of the above at his very best and in London. I think at his very best Burns would loose decisions to all of the above.
rob,why would kevin need to fight in london to win mate? are you implying hed get looked after? i do hope when ricky wins you choke on your disregard for him, everyone got there opinion but yours isnt based on fact rob.
lost for words,i respect your opinion mate,i think this will be a real good fight between the two best in the division in the UK,at least you mention kevins injury ect and dont blab out kevin will win coz hes from london, burns is so up for this i think he will put on a world class performance which ive seen from him in the gym several times, although the gym dont count!
tough one to call this, wouldve gone for mitchell first, then went for burns since mitchells long layoff, but pickng mitchell again since hearing good old freddie roach is teachin him some defence and movement. i prefer mitchells style and he's the stronger, i'd pick mitchell to win on points with the fight being a bit of a stinker, nether wanting to commit the first few rounds and mitchell gettin to burns more going forward than burns gettin to mitchell going backward. warren will have to be careful with mitchell i think the martinez fight is winnable and a possible war so gettin that fight stateside would definatly open up some doors for young kevin. burns has a good chance of becoming euro champ.
Cheers, Billy:good. The fight has the makings of being a British classic, IMO, and the fact that it's effectively a title eliminator makes the fight even more interesting. It's also great to see both guys want to fight each other just like Moore-Rhodes and Brook-Jennings rather than bypass their domestic rivals for easier opposition. If Mitchell-Burns is on the Khan card, I cannot wait. What a night it would be for British boxing.
