Realistically, I dont think that card, as good as it is will fill 20,000 at the O2. Yes, Mitchell has a lot of support there but I don't think anyone outside of Haye or Hatton could fill the O2 at this time. Even with an undercard as good as that. But tickets won't be £150, the floor seats might, but tiered stuff will be around £30-£100 if these shows are to go by. Yes, Katsidis is a name thats fought over here before-but that card lacks a 'casual name' that the fans know and will buy in to to fill these big arenas. Heck, Khan v Kotelnik (allegedly) only sold like 5-6000 in Khan's back yard with a decent undercard. Will Mitchell v Katsidis, however solid the card is fill 20,000 at the O2? Just can't see it sadly.
I was talking average. if you compare that bill to the origional plan for the wembley bill, where he sold under 5000 tickets, then its not that different. this fight can be sold in London. Katsidis vs Earl was on ITV remember. Big up both fighters as warriors. Keep playing the interview with Katsidis where he says "i was prepared to die in there" you could probs get 500-1000 aussies in to if you play on that. i am seriously hyped for this fight more than any other fight in 2010 other than Mosley vs Money May
Khan vs Kotelnik wasn't a fight that grabbed anyone, a lot of hardcore fans felt it was a bit of a **** fight..... not as **** as Salita was, but that was a mando so **** all could be done. Froch vs Dirrell did about 8000.... Dirrell wasn't the biggest of names, and the undercard was perhaps the worst ever to be connected to a world title fight in the UK. Perhaps the ''Super Six'' tournament angle sold a few tickets, I don't know. Mitchell will certainly sell if there is a good co-feature :deal
No worries :good I think Warren realises that he will lose money on this fight. No doubt about it. Tickets sales won't go near to recuperating the losses and considering this will almost certainly not be on PPV then I think he MUST know he shall lose money. I think he's gambling on making Mitchell into a star and then recuperating some of the profit in a year or so when/if he becomes a star. Massive gamble if you ask me coz I think Katsidis will win :good
Yeah, promoters are a bit like bookies, they seldom lose. I guess it all depends on the sponsorship money and TV..... but it's an awful lot to put on the line. He'd have been better served letting the Aussie take the show at that amount, the split would have been 70-30 rather than 80-20, the difference between fighting home and away is overrated IMO.
I don't mean about in the grand scale of things, I meant that he won't lose money on the show itself IMO.
Well said Billy, this echoes many of my posts about Mitchell winning this by boxing clever and great feet...:good Listen in Dan...:deal
Got you Kos :good but I'm not so sure mate :huh Anyway i'm sick of hearing the same old arguments for this thing and it's ****ing months off anyway. I'll join in the debates again during fight week. Until then we know the score. I think Kats, John thinks Kev :good Loser sports an avatar chosen by the winner for 60 (active days) :good
Well, there's the obvious answer of $$$ There's shitloads of Aussies in London too, im sure there will be plenty of support for him on the night.
