Source: frankwarren.tv Commonwealth super-featherweight champion Kevin Mitchell looks set for a chance to win the British title. The undefeated 22-year-old has been nominated to face current champion Carl Johanneson before the end of January. Purse bids have been called for the fight. Unbeaten in 24, Mitchell also holds the IBF and WBO Intercontinental titles at 130 pounds and is widely regarded as one of the best talents in the country. He was an ABA champion at just 18, and has blazed a formidable trail since turning professional. Johanneson turned in an impressive display to widely out-point Ricky Burns earlier this year, but has since lost to Leva Kirakosyan. It was the repeat of a 2004 reverse. Both defeats were by stoppage, the second in a challenge for the European title. The 29-year-old, 26-3, began his career in America before returning to his native Yorkshire. Meanwhile Mitchell is set to fight at the Nottingham Arena on October 6.
Another top fight happening in Britain. Commonwealth and British title should always be unified. If you have world ambitions then unifying advances you and if you don't have world ambitions then it allows you to be at the top with the domestic/minor titles.
good domestic step-up for mitchell. he's already recognised internationally and if he does manage to beat johanneson, he'll be second only to alex arthur on the british superfeatherweight scene.
This should be a great fight. I like Mitchell but he has not shown me what all the fuss is about so him meeting Johanesson should be good. Carl is a very impressive fighter but like most of our guys is a step below world class.
If Mitchell hurts Johannesson he can win. Has Mitchell fought a puncher yet? Kev looks to have the better chin.
