I think Arreola looked spectacular because of mitchells bad defense, i think Arreola would still lose to stiverne, in the beginning mitchell landed some jabs, got some combinations off, but wasn't tight in his defense, doesn't have really good ring iq, or good footwork, this allowed Arreola to get in and bomb.

By no means did Arreola look spectacular. He also didn't land a bomb, it looked like an average solid shot that would normally get the opponent's attention, however, it totally took Mitchell's legs. Arreola isn't a devastating puncher, those are shots that a HW is going to get hit with at one point or another during a fight and Mitchell can't appear to be knocked from his senses every time that he gets hit.

I think it's more his defense that is terrible. We will never know how good his chin is because he allows himself to get hit entirely flush almost every time. But that is what happens when you take up this sport late, you never learn how to perfect your craft in the amateurs or when you are young. Just like Michael Grant (remember Golota?). Most guys know how to brace themselves and take the impact off of punches with movement, using their arms/elbows, rotating their head with the shot, etc.. Mitchell does absolutely none of that. It amazes me that guys try to take this up late. I understand Marciano did, but who knows if he was in some kind of perpetual training or street fighting before he became champ.

I knew Mitchell was gonna get cooked ever since Witherspoon nailed him with that right and damn near took him out.

Yeah, it was a pretty hard shot, but it was also quite a 'cautious first-round' shot ... that first right hand. Solid enough but I don't think it had fully bad intentions on it.
Arreola seemed genuinely surprised by the effect it had at first.

I see some of the 'that punch would have ko'd anybody brigade' are out in force. Mitchell has a Glass Jaw, end of discussion.

As for Mitchell's career being over.......

    It aint.

He could go back to fighting to the Gaverns and Becks and that type of fight, staying busy, getting rds in and learning the sport.

He was rushed into the big time b/c he was very successful on the Clevel. That makes him a B level fighter.
I personally believe that a 31yo with his type of strengths can rebound and come back and be relevant.

Look at Grant. He never truly overcame his chin issues, but he learned how to fight, and at 35 he made a small comeback, becoming relevant and being mentioned in numerous talks for a title shot.:think

Its a combination of a Horrible defense and a horrible chin, he might as well retire now unless he enjoys getting Knocked out/stopped and hurt.

He has done very well considering he did not take up boxing until he was in his twenties, but he will always be at a huge disadvantage, due to look of experience, it is impossible to make up that lost time.

    :deal

I like Arreola but he still is the same average boxer he always has been. Beating Mitchell isn't much.

No, denier, we know EXACTLY how "good" Mitchell's chin is. It's pure CHINA, GLASS, pathetically fragile. :nod

Mitchell has a glass jaw, period end of paragraph. Quit trying to rationalize it, and admit that glass jaws DO exist in boxing, and Seth Mitchell has one of the worst!!!!

If you can't take a punch, you aren't generally going to do to well in boxing. Period. :yep

I rewatched the fight on YouTube, and the first punch that Arreola landed that rocked Mitchell didn't even look that hard.
