Should be a great scrap later on. Surprised nobody has mentioned it.

Sergei is never in a dull fight, and Mitrione comes to throw down. Should be fun while it lasts.

'Meathead' had a lot of momentum going over in Bellator until he got mercilessly lay & prayed by Ryan Bader. Matt looked totally clueless on the ground, which has been a continuous theme throughout his career. I'm not fighter bashing; he showed a lot of heart gutting his way through that kimura attempt, but I'm just stating facts that Bader controlled him with an ease that showed how much improvement Matt's grappling needs.

Then again grappling isn't Sergei strong suit either, given that Jeff Monzon and Josh Barnett both submitted him in a hurry. After getting choked by Barnett it kind of looked like Sergei was going to gradually vanish. It was mostly mismatches against guys like Chase Gormley and Sokudju in places like China, Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan etc.

But then he looked DEVASTATING against Roy Nelson. Maybe going to Bellator rejuvenated his ambition.

Mitrione seemed to be winning comfortably before getting KOd by Kharitonov who still has that power that can finish anybody.

Kharitonov was getting his timing and range down in the first few minutes. Once he did it was a wrap and Mitrione was like a deer in the headlights. This is what a good chunk of the latter half of his career has looked like. Looks slow and lethargic to start off and gets outlanded and outspeeded until finding his timing and range and absolutely clobbering his unfortunate opponent.

Agreed. The uppercut was a beauty.

Sergei could do with losing the mass. Age and mileage clearly doesn't help him start slow, but he was so lean in his Pride days.

Yeah I agree with that,Mitriones only hope was using his speed and hope to avoid him for the 3 rounds but the signs weren't good in the 2nd half of the 1st round as Kharitonov started landing with most of what he threw to head and body.
It was actually funny to here the commentators towards end of 1st round try and say that it was Mitrione who was the 1 finding his range lol.
Any version of Kharitonov is better then Mitrione so I wasn't shocked to see him get get KTFO again by Kharitonov who has good recent form losing only once in the last 8 years which was by fluke KO.

Yeah the Ayala KO was bad but if you read into things a bit easy to understand why it happened. Kharitonov was bed ridden with some form of sickness for 2-3 months before that fight. He definitely wasn't himself when got to the cage that night. He'd demolish Ayala if they fight again. Personally I'd like to see it back Sergei's the kind of guy who never likes a loss to go unavenged. Don't think he's ever lost a rematch. He's 4-0 in rematches just off the top of my head.

Can't believe Kharitonov is still relevant nowadays. He's as old as Luis Ortiz ffs, but he's still fighting at a high level. Love the guy, such a tank.

    Good old days:

The guy had do deal with so many injuries over the years as well and while being the next Fedor dissipated he still competed in THREE different combat sports at a high level and fairly consistent pace. He's one of the greatest combat sport crossover talents ever if you really think about it.

Case and point. Same year he knocked out Overeem he was still competing in amateur boxing and absolutely pummeled Helenius and easily won but was disgracefully shafted by corrupt Finnish officials.
