On one hand, it's blatantly obvious that none of the top MW want to go anywhere near Golovkin RIGHT NOW . .However, based on his hype, perceived excellence and most specifically, HIS AGE , he is in a position to "dare to be great" and go after the likes of Ward or Kovalev..etc. Yes, I understand that hbo want to build up the Ward fight, but the time is now for ggg and if he really wanted to be great...he would make it happen...but he isn't.

You can't fault him for wanting Cotto or Canelo, but they don't want it... So look elsewhere to be great. He is more concerned about the paycheck though...it's his right and can't fault him, but let's not pretend he is this throwback warrior either.

It's not that he wants Canelo or Cotto. He just wants Cotto's belt, not Cotto as a person. He won't be leaving for higher divisions until he can unify his first. That is a huge goal for him. He talks about it in almost every interview.

He fights 4 times a year against anyone and everyone in his weight class. His biggest threat is 12 pounds heavier than him and already turned down the fight. His second biggest threat went silent after boasting about possibly fighting him, and is now semi-retired. His perceived threat is a feather-fisted runner/spoiler that fights one category below. To me the picture is crystal clear.

:deal He is too old and too small to go beyond 168 so his claim to boxing hall of fame would be being the undisputed at two weight classes. I don't blame him.

Very fair post. Don't think he should in any way be expected to hop in the ring with Kovalev at any point in his career but if he was some Henry Armstrong, Sam Langford, Roberto Duran "take on all comers" warrior he'd be chasing down Ward instead of looking for bigger money fights that he'd be favored in. I don't fault him in the slightest because there's a lot more people avoiding him than vice versa but he's not the bastion of fearless warrior spirit some are making him out to be. And for the record, he is my favorite active fighter. Also for the record, I would give him a 10-20% chance against Ward but would favor him against anyone else from 154-168.

Be honest, if he was to beat someone like Billy Joe Saunders for a vacant WBC belt it would not have as much impact and meaning than if he beat Cotto for it and you know it. Belts mean little if you don't take them from the right people.

I'd like to add to my post that though Duran was clearly a take on all comers type, the biggest fights against the toughest opponents also happened to be the biggest money fights.

Lets just be real and say that Froch is retired. He talked the talk but isn't gonna walk the walk. If GGG was 27 or 28, i would be ok with where he is at...but he's closer to exiting his prime than entering it, which is why I feel like he is in a position to make at least the Ward fight happen. (example: concede on the venue and a bit of cash to get the fight at 160 or 164...maybe not that exactly but you see what I mean)

At the end of the day though, he's a businessman with gloves just like 99.9% of todays fighters. Can't fault him, but as a fan you want more. Know what I mean?

Overrated. So many people hype this guy. He still hasn't faced a world class opponent.

Name me 1 "World class" opponent from 147 to 168 who is willing to fight him RIGHT NOW. Ward would...but GGG would have to concede to get the fight, despite being the A side.

Edit: If you're gonna mention Erislandy, then I suggest you look into the actual ability of that fight to materialize. If GGG gets Lara in that same tiny ring Angulo got, it would be murder.

Absolutely. But also as a fan you can't help but feel frustrated with the boxing politics. GGG earned his shot at the wbc champ, just like he earned the shot at wba champs in the past. But those damn cowards vacate :patsch

If I had to pick one MW that may give GGG problems with something other than power like Lemieux I'd pick Billy Joe, whether people want to admit it or not Saunders is an incredible talent and slick as hell and damn hard to hit flush. He may be one of the few who could give GGG a run for his money.....okay now call me bat**** crazy:nut
