What would happend if you would mix up the best qualitys of Leon Spinks and Earnie Shavers. I know. Not very good. :-( --> Leon Shavers
It would be a threatening prospect (a peak Spinks's stamina, speed and aggression plus Shavers' power) but it wouldn't solve the key problem in both men's arsenal: the lack of a reliable chin. Both were starched in the first round when they faced monster hitters (Quarry and Coetzee).
Bingo. :yep Give me a choice of either, however, and I'd take Shavers anyday. And he would have destroyed Spinks if they ever met in the ring.
I've heard he's punch drunk - but don't know this for a fact. I believe he works as a janitor in a YMCA somewhere. Anyway, Shavers would've laid him out cold just like Holmes did.
Whereas Shavers is currently one of the number one doormen in the UK. Doorman vs janitor = Doorman KO1. Which is more or less what I'd expect if they met in their primes. At his best Spinks was a come-forward fighter with limited defense and a poor chin; hardly what is needed to beat a prime Shavers.
Shavers got ****ed. Shot Ali did all these flurries that caught the crowd and judges's eyes but Shavers landed the better shots. I have no idea how people scored that for Ali. I had it 9-6 Shavers and I thought I was being a tad generous to Ali. Ali showed an incredible ability to absorb shots, but was lucky as hell to win that fight.
