After having 1 of the great careers in combat sports he is finally hanging up the gloves due to suffering a stroke after his last fight holding a press conference today confirming he definitely won't be coming back.

He was a favourite of mine when I started following K1 and MMA in the PRIDE era and I was lucky enough to see him fight live once at UFC110, I'm sure many on here will remember how good he was in his prime.

He didn't have much success in his stints with the UFC but still was able to have some decent performances right up until the end probably due to maintaining a fairly disciplined healthy lifestyle, including finally winning a K1 Grand prix title in 2012 a decade after coming so close a few times .

One of my alltime favourite combat athletes. It was nice that he was able to avenge some bad losses before the end. Hope he makes a speedy recovery.

A Stroke? Ahh man! Hope he’s ok.

I absolutely loved Mirko. He was a born fighter.

I looked out for his result against Nelson and was overjoyed when he won. I hate Roy, his fans, and was glad to see Mirko not get stopped.

His wins over Vov, Aleks, Gonzaga (in the rematch), Hunt & Wand were awesome.

He was possibly the baddest man on earth in 2002-2004. In his prime and working for the Anti-Terrorist Unit? That’s a bad man.

Glad to see he went out on the win, because there’s nothing worse than a favourite fighter of yours going out to people they would have killed in their prime.

He looked good against Nelson. Much better than the Cro Cop that was in UFC. I wonder if the Bellator Juice gave him extra life? Kongo looked really rejuvenated as well.

Best wishes for health and a good retirement. He said "I was lucky" pertaining to his stroke. So, apparently he didn't suffer too much damage. He was a great combative athlete. Hope the best for him.
