I am a fan of MMA, I watch every match I can, sometimes even PPV, yet after reading the compensation received by the fighters i wonder how long will the promoters get away with treating the fighters as lowly laborers? For example, the UFC has all promotion rights and control all the purses, and basically owns the fighters. They have a monopoly in controlling every aspect of the fighters' careers, and no one raises his voice against it. This is just as the old Holywood contract system with the movie stars, something that eventually gave way to the present system where a star can get what they can relative to their popularity. Someone like Anderson Silva, Jose Aldo, should be able to name their own price. Promoters should not own the rights to a fighter as if they were indentured servants. Fighters should be compensated as professional boxers, why should Manny Pacquiao command a 20 million dollar purse while Anderson Silva puts his life in danger for peanuts? Silva generates millions of dollars on PPV, yet if you see the money he earns per fight the logical conclusion is that he is being ripped-off by the UFC, perhaps it is because MMA was not accepted in many States before, but in 2011 this obvious disparity between boxing purses and MMA's should be addressed and Congress should hold hearings to break downthe promoters' grip on the fighters, let the promoters promote without owning the fighters as modern date slaves.
Answer's simple. Start up your own MMA Company and run it how you see fit. And I absolutely love the idea that Congress should step in to stop corruption
People always say the fighters are getting ripped off but no one knows what they truly get paid and the fighters seem to have no problem with it Sure Dana got rich anf the Fertittas got richer but theyre also spending a huge chunk of that fighter generated money opening up new MMA territories around the world and turning this into a global sports franchise That **** aint free And Im sure all that visibility is helping the fighters pocketbooks
