MMA needs to refocus...They have 5 great fighters. They have a bunch of gatekeepers and maybe 2 prospects, one of them Cain Velasquez. They need to be serious and act professional, take the craft and hone it like Lyoto does. Train what youre good at 90% of the time. Note that because you watch TUF and you go to the gym and wear affliction shirts, this doesnt make you an MMA fighter. And if these same guys decided to train in MMA for two years and win some fights, it doesnt make them great. I get the feeling that most MMA fighters really think theyre that great. Like a Koscheck, McFedries, Grove, a Herman. I mean observe their demeanor and body language especially after winning a fight, they quickly forget that they just got Koed the fight before and may get Koed again the next fight. Who are the great fighters in MMA? Fedor, Silva, MAchida, GSP, Torres How bout boxing? Theres your answer right there
Somebody is seeing things through rose tinted glasses, yes he wasn't your top guy but he did enough to be ranked in the top 10 HW's in MMA, he did enough to become a UFC HW Champion and he did that only 2 years ago, he was fighting a guy with 1 fight's experience. Ray Mercer hasn't been a boxing champion since 91 and he hasn't fought a meaningful fight in years, Sylvia however "weak" amongst the elite's of UFC was still "up there" and he got embarrassed by a boxer who is not even good enough to beat Richel Hersisia (last boxing match) who lost to Fraudley Harrison. In summary: Sylvia had: The height, the reach, the youth, the experience, his type of match and the ranking to not only destroy this old war horse boxer but to take him in style. Mercer had: More talent. End of Story.
How quickly people forget Why are people so angry at MMA? Do you punks really think we give a **** what you have to say about MMA? Why are you keep trying to compete against MMA? What are you trying to ****ing prove? Do you even realize this is a boxing forum with an MMA sub-forum? That means everyone on this website came here because they were a boxing fan first. I highly doubt anyone here posts on sherdog or w/e other MMA forums out there. Hell, sherdogs boxing forum used to be good(haven't been there for a while). So who are you trying to convince by spitting your bull**** here? Again, WHO HERE EXACTLY are you trying to convince and with what? Do you realize you're just waiting for your turn to talk?
First question; We're not. Second question; Yes otherwise you wouldn't have replied. Third question: The people who happen to read this thread and think of this as anything less then a total embarrassment to bar room brawling, I mean MMA. Fourth question: See question 3. Fifth question: Am I? Odd, I thought I was putting forth a rebuttal to another member of the forum. Well at least you know what my mind set was when I replying to someone. Good job.
No arguments here, he is more talented than Sylvia. No one is arguing that the heavy-weight scene in MMA is weak. But you can't simply judge all of MMA on one performance, by a sub-par fighter past his prime. My hat's of to Ray for ktfo Timmy, but let's remember Kimbo handed him his arse and Kimbo is far from elite in MMA.
Which goes to show the whole random throwing, talentless bums can make it in UFC, Kimbo and Brock are both just big monsters who can throw a hard punch/knee. Ones the UFC champ after 3 fights and the other is seen as a hard guy and he got knocked out by a 10lb child (Seth) throwing a weak jab. To me it's all too lucky, sure there are some skillfull fighters but you don't need to be to win, all you need to do is be a smart puncher like Mercer and you can beat anyone on your day. I have no doubt a top boxer at the top of the sport would kill someone from MMA if they were allowed the gloves off.
Excellent ****ing post. Silva fell for the oakey doke.:rofl Anyone who has spent time in the ring knows not to fall for this.
No one sees Kimbo as a 'hard guy'. Kimbo is garbage, but somewhat a celebrity. Yes Brock is a monster who also happens to have an extensive amatuer wrestling background. To be honest I think the current UFC champions are probably more athletic and better skilled then some world champions in boxings alphabet soup. Which goes to show that many fighters in boxing have ducked and weaved the toughest fights and ended up with a 'world' title. I'm not going to say MMA doesn't have it's faults because it certainly does, but don't pretend that boxing has never had a can of a champion.
Kimbo was not seen as a joke until he was sparked by that little white boy, he was seen as the next big thing in MMA, one lucky punch and that's all over with. However it's very true and there are too many bum world champions but I would still pick them all above MMA fighters to win (even Willie Limond the WBU champ). There are things I envy in MMA, but none of them to do with fighting, only to do with promotion, all fighters being in the same league (pretty much) and the PPV cards usually have more then 1 top fight on, hell I even watch some MMA just because of this but to me it just simply doesn't compare to boxing in terms of skill or excitement (certain fights the latter one).
To win what? A boxing match? I agree! Boxers are hands down the best punchers in the world This does not mean the top MMA guys lack skill though, grappling in itself takes years to master and many of these guys have been training since they were kids. Granted some guys have won titles more with heart and toughness than skill but these guys don't stay on top for long. Put simply, anyone who thinks Ray Mercer has some how made a point about boxing opposed to MMA is kidding themselves.
Exactly, some of these guys think they can just pick up boxing skills with in a few boxing session and some mit work. Mercer maybe old but he still has world class KO power in both hands and over 20 year experience , you had better know what your doing when you step in the ring with someone like that. That just goes to show the level of disrespect some MMA fans and fighter have for boxing, some of these fans are calling this a lucky punch, but if you know what your looking at you can see mercer set this punch up with his footwork.
