ESPN : Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei (The PitBull)Arlovski will be crossing over from MMA to boxing later this year . He is making his debut on the undercard of the September 13th Joel Casamayor-Juan Manuel Marquez fight . Arlovski, who will be fighting Ben Rothwell on the upcoming July 19th "Affliction: Banned" card, has been working on his boxing with world-renowned trainer Freddie Roach for quite some time now. Roach :"Arlovski's a good student. He and BJ Penn are the best strikers that I've worked with who are involved in MMA," I never knew Roach worked with MMA fighters Hopefully he makes a good transistion
He has a very bad chin, but he does punch hard. H[ wont do well, boxing is a sport u have to learn early
This is kinda interesting news. AA was probably the best technical striker MMA had ever seen at the heavyweight level. I always watched him and thought to myself "this guy would make a good boxer". Problem is that he has no chin to speak of, so I'm betting most B level heavys would be able to put him to sleep.
Im interested to see how he does most including me would'nt hold it against him if he fought C level comp which would still be very challenging for him I believe.
thats not a very bad chin.. I mean, with these little glove..even Andrade could be knocked out cold..
And the guys who hit did KO him though they were not boxers, they weren't slouches as far as striking ..
I always wondered if those small gloves hurt more than the big hard boxing gloves.I perfer not to get hit by either
Why the **** would he do that? Last time I saw Rico he was a 300 pound fat ass and he never was a very good with his hands even by MMA standards
I am interested in seeing how far Arlovski can get. Big powerful guy, but as has been said, boxing talks much more skill than what the MMA requires. He may be able to work with Roach and get somewhere in boxing. Never know til he tries. He is only 29, so he's got quite a bit of time to hopefully learn and develop what boxing requires. But as has been said, maybe its too late for someone already set in his ways to ever gain boxing skill on the world level. On a similar note, it was Vitor Belfort who also started boxing about a year or two ago. I wonder what happened with his boxing? On Youtube, he destroyed his first opponent in dramatic fashion. Vitor is a very powerful guy who looked to be a viscious puncher, at least against the starter level fighter he was in with. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JisGpGEtiGY
