I agree that the force is similar as the padding is on the knuckle and that is where the force is released. The rest of the padding around the fist is not enough to slow the fist down to significantly reduce power. It can offer more wrist protection so a better delivered punch but more often more padding means the boxer throws a technically incorrect punch as they are under the illusion their hands are protected. Taylor, Malignaggi and numerous others have simply terrible punching technique.

What MMA gloves offer and what I preach is accuracy. The way you want to throw your fist, the way you want to land it and where you want to land it are all superior to the boxing glove. I always say use the smallest boxing glove possible and good technique will be your friend and easier to execute.

Even though boxers are obviously better and more skilled at boxing, ironically they are often less technically correct and put into practice the fundamentals when compared to a mixed martial artist. Alot of this is to do with the joke of the glove they often wear as it also sees them adopt a points mentally rather than a ko one.

I know you got to respect science but I've been hit by the same guy with 8 oz fight gloves 16 oz sparring gloves and mma gloves. Mma gloves are much harder and hurt more.

I don't agree with your asseration that mma guys generally hit more correctly. If I had to take a bare fisted punch from either a mma guy or same weight boxer 9 times outta ten I'm taking the mma guy.

Also achilles..paulie mags punches like **** because his hands are messed up, so he tries to avoid further injury, that is also one of the main reasons Joe Calzaghe started slapping...early in his career he threw primarly correct punches.

Fight science/sport science is such a bollocks show. Its a great idea just poorly executed.

Your idea that boxers are less accurate and less technically correct than MMA fighters is laughable.

Sports Science is very little sports and almost no science. One thing you will notice is they almost never employe a uniform method of measurement. They will have a boxers punch measured one way one time, then another another time, and truth is, all those tests need to be done in a very uniform way to have any validaity.

In the rugby vs NFL one they let a football player spear a dummy and record the force. They made the rugby player hit a man who had sensors attached... :patsch

Its all bull**** anyway. Rugby vs Football, Boxing vs MMA etc. It depends on who the athlete is.
