Well the MMA fighter might not be as accurate in a boxing match, almost certainly wouldn't. But against another MMA fighter who in comparison to a boxer has very bad punch defence vs another MMA fighter might be more accurate in the number of clean punches landed. Less likley to be blocked too.
Boxers are definately better at defence against punches but they don't have to defend kicks at the same time. So boxers have a smaller body area to defend and they do it for every minute of their bouts and get very good at it.
Of course there are many factors behind it, I was just saying vs other MMA fighters they might land more punches per punch thrown. For the reasons both you and I said.

i know what you mean but i still find it close to impossible. I think we all have a better chance at avoiding a punch from dawson at punching range then a rattlesnake biting you from the same range.
