MMA in Asia in 2012

  1. I dont trust Schiavello and the audience was clearly far more than 7000. I believe the reported numbers and also think that all tickets bar the VIP's and fighters were paid tickets. These guys are experienced in the promotion game and wont be running at a loss.

Yes because Dream hasn't been struggling to pay people

  3. I wouldnt be too sure about that. Apparently the OneFC head honcho was there and liked what he saw. The event was a success and from what ive been told the networks interests picked up substantially, especially with Fedor there. The problem was that Ishii isnt a very well liked Japanese fighter (they dont see him as patriotic or a proud Japanese). I would bet that the major network will be there next year.

  4. Not the same money man, this guy now actually pays up on time and to the agreed amount. Old Dream was on the rocks, now they arent.

To be honest Schiavello is an idiot and it wouldnt surprise if he'd massaged the figures. But a discrepancy like that is simply too large. There's no way DREAM would run a show that was intended to be loss making so the maths to me don't add up as they have fighters and bills to pay. Either way there was a lot of support in that arena so that can only be a good thing.

Japan should import Brandon Vera. That would give them a big name.

One fc needs to sign Shinya Aoki he is already pretty big in japan and and they need to make new fighters, whats that dude who held the WBC (?) belt and had a decent TDD in the first One fc event? they should market him as he already has some followers from boxing and milk that he was a former world boxing champ

Yodsanan Sityodtong?, he fights at bantam.

Aoki really has nowhere else to go but the UFC.

No rock show, festival or event of any kind is intended to be loss-making. But a lot of them end up being financial disasters anyway. And handing out free tickets to fill seats has been going on for as long as shows have been staged. If nothing else, those people who paid nothing to get in will buy food, drink and maybe merchandise, and that's money for the promotion that otherwise wasn't there.

Personally, I have no opinion on the financial success of the DREAM show. I don't have anything close to enough information.

But I hope that Asian MMA can recover and get some great shows and organizations going. They have a rich tradition in combat sports, there's always room for appropriate variety in the international scene, and if nothing else, sport is a great vehicle for generating cross-cultural appreciation and respect.

  11. OneFC doesnt need to sign Aoki, all they need to do is follow up on their plan and work with Dream. This working with Dream and M1 is a genius move by all three promotions.

No way was there 23000 paid in attendance. You just have to look at the amount of buzz going in and in japan there wasnt any. The media were not really interested and it the show didnt really capture the imagination of the public.

Aoki wouldn't stand a chance in the UFC. He's too one dimensional.

Fact, I would prefer the K1 GP to stay if that meant losing Bellator, Dream and OneFC.

Saki is the ****ing man. So fast and devastating and willing to fight anyone of any size.

Japanese/Asian fighters need to evolve. They never seem to be well rounded enough. They more than have the talent, that is apparent in all martial arts they enter.
