MMA has already peaked and on it's way out. Just like the oil industry without the trillions of dollars in margins for over a century. Too many injuries/cancelled fights, over saturation, UFC monopoly, **** fight cards, lack of stars, Stupid reality tv show, declining ppv numbers are all contributing to the end result of the major MMA market folding in North America just like it did in Japan(I know the reasons there were different). Just like PKA kickboxing in the 80s, MMA quickly grew in popularity, peaking for a short time and gradually died off. As we can see the UFC ppv numbers: have fallen off badly since their peak in 2009-10: http://mmapayout.com/blue-book/pay-per-view/ Things aren't getting better from here on out, they are only getting worse. After the UFC goes down, there will be a huge power vacuum but outside the UFC the industry is filled out with a bunch of B and C level orgs that are not equipped to fill the UFC's shoes. Within 10 years MMA will have gone the way of the dinosaurs, mark my words.
UFC is looking thinks in bigger picture.of course they have growth problems. They have been putting more shows,more fighters,more weighclasses and tried to push UFC globally.and PPV model is definetly out of order.PPV numbers have decreased in boxing and wrestling also. I think they are doing just fine,and especially i'm glad that they have monopoly in the sport.who the **** want to see all top fighters spreaded to different organisations?so that thinx would be like in boxing,when rarely top10 fighters fight against eachothers?
Many boxing fans such as myself said exactly that when this **** first started to get attention. You can only pump up demand for your product with WWE-style macho marketing and production for so long. :yep When the product consists of, basically, a couple of guys rolling around on the ground - eventually the fad will die out as it is just BORING to watch. :nod Eventually, the testosterone-fueled adolescents who are the target audience will go elsewhere. I liked it back in the days of Gracie, Shamrock, Severn, when it was basically style VS style. Once it became all about cross-training, I lost interest. Boxing for me.
The truth is mma is getting more fine tuned. The fighters are getting better and better. What happens at the top level is that to the uneducated eye, it is getting boring. Fights are just getting more technical. Better skills can make for boring fights. Just like in boxing. The average person cant sit and watch a technical 12 round battle. Actually, boxing is getting more relevant in mma. It will stick around.
Jesus. Did you see Fabio Maldonado's last fight? And that was on PPV. You cant just look at Aldo who has been the most technical for years and draw broad conclusions.
No one I know even cares about MMA and they bought PPV's when Rampage and Forrest were big. MMA is on a steep decline. Every metric proves this fact.
It's declining I agree, mostly due to the UFC monopoly, and the very poor decisions they've made in recent years.
