This is the most reasonable response yet. Boxing and MMA fans need to stop looking at the other sport with suspicion and disdain. They both take tremendous ability and discipline. Bashing on both sides simply shows utter ignorance.

MMA skills would probably be more useful in a bar fight.

But then, who wants to ever get into a bar fight?

:huh How so? The last place you want to be in a street fight is on the ground, even if you do know jiu jitsu

I'm a big MMA fan, bigger boxing fan, and I have always believed that boxing is more of a specialist skill. MMA fighters have to learn a wider range of diverse skills, but they don't have to dedicate themselves religiously to one art form. The fighters at the top of both sports are supremely skilled athletes.

If you you know boxing..you can take on 3 or more guys on the street. If you know MMA you will make love in the pavement with one dude while his other mates is kicking your head.

Anyone that needs an MMA legend to explain boxing is an idiot.

This is something that most people don't understand. In a fight, between someone who knows grappling and a striker. As soon as they clinch, the grappler is in control of the fight.

You can take down your opponent and run away or you can take him down and control the dominant position. If by any reason you get taken down, during the scramble you know exactly where you are and that makes it better for you to get back up and run away or go to get the better position.

Using Jiu Jitsu doesn't mean that you always have to go to the ground and use the guard(fighting of your back). In fact, we always train with that in mind. We always look for the dominant position and the person who is not on the dominant position looks to sweep his opponent and get the dominant position. In a street fight I would try to take down my opponent and go for a knee on the stomach position and rain some strikes, and run away.

I disagree. I'm not bashing MMA, but in a bar fight with so many people around, chairs and glasses. I would rather stay on my feet then role around on the floor with some knuckle head. You never know when the bullets are going to start flying and you have to make a quick run for it. That's just my view on the things.
