MMA, looking like a bit of a joke right now?

I'v been a fan of this sport for years but am I the only one thinking that UFC events over the last few months have been downright embarrising?

Lesnar being hyped as the badest man on the planet then panicing like an amature, Mir/Crocop putting on a training display, UFC 120 and 122's poor quality plus Bader, Rampage, Sherk etc winning highly contested decisions. The image the UFC like to project of a well established sport really has taken a bit of a battering if you ask me.

Granted the judging isnt directly down to them but as the largest promoter they obviously have great power to influence decision making at the AC's. It seems to me theres been a culture of "if it anit broke don't fix it" or rather "if its making profit don't fix it" thats papered over alot of cracks that really should have been delt with years ago.

 

When was the last time there was a truely satisifing UFC card?

123 = Dodgy decision in the main event and co main over in 20 secs.

122 = Weak foreign card.

121 = Lesnar puts in terrible hype exposing performance.

120 = Weak foreign card.

119 = Mir/Crocop put in terrible performances, Lil Nog/Bader and Sherk Dunham have questionable deicisons.

118 = Randy/Toney embarrisingly one sided, supposed GOAT LW dominated.

117 = Supposidly P4P king dominated for 4 1/2 rounds, Sonnen fails drugs test.

116 = Both Lesnar and Carwin put in poor performances.

115 = Chuck given undeserved main event and shows it.

114 - Rampage/Evans fued hyped, match ilargely fails to deliver.

113 - Satisifing event, Shogun gets the belt he deserved in a good if short match.

112 - Another Anderson dancing show, questionable BJ/Edgar decision.

111 - GSP wins totally one sided decision dispite the hype.

110 - Nog's decline ignored but exposed in Cains quick win.

109 - Coleman put in main event, shows that he shouldnt have been.

108 - Evans LNPs a decision in a weak main event.

Thats a pretty dam poor record so far this year full of one sided matchups, dispointing performances and hyping being exposed.

 

I don't think 7 is really needed but yeah at the very least all main events should be 5 rounders, the instant Machida/Rampage was announced I knew we'd be regreting it only being 15 mins.

Its basically a combination of a system from boxing being crudely shoehorned into another sport and very poorly defined scoring that leaves room for a ton of inconsistancey(and some would say bias).

The reality is that the current MMA enviroment is far from ideal but theres been barely any move to change things in the 5 years since the sport took off and the cracks are really starting to show.

Yeah being able to intelligently judge the quality and legitiamncey of the sport I'm watching rather than allowing a promoter to tell me what to think may sadly have coloured my enjoyment of the sport. The same way I enjoyed the WWF more when I really believed the Ultimate Warrior could punch a hole though time.
