Its being said that Promoter Jeremy Lappen paid a fighter extra to keep his fight off the mat, and stay standing. Seth Petruzelli, the man who knocked out Kimbo Slice was said to have been paid extra to keep his match with Slice upright.

These was the comment that Petruzelli gave after the fight
    "
Once the talks started that Lappen paid extra and attempted to alter the fight Petruzelli back tracked and changed his story now claiming that he was only paid a knockout bonus
    Shame on you guys:nono

Just think about the cring this cat would have done had he been knocked out himself...He would have cried about them taking him off his game....Slice was a hype that got exposed in the right time...that is the only thing that good from this crap...Slice=HYPE Oh I mean EXPOSED:lol:

actually in MMA people get knockout bonuses to its not really an accusation is it? the promoters wanted an exciting show so they probably raised the knockout bonus

MMA is a blood and guts sport. The fans don't like when the fighters are both on the floor and not throwing punches

You know there is an MMA forum right here at ESB. You'll probably get better response to this thread there. IN here the only way you will get a good response is if you say that boxing is better than MMA or vice versa

Ypur missing the point...Read his comments they paid him to fight a certain way..IN the US that is illegal and you cant attempt to alter and/or FIX sporting events. Knock out bonus would have been paid AFTER the fight and know before...the guys said plain and clear that the was hinted to to keep the fight off the mat...Now why would they tell him that AFTER the fight and what does that have to do with a knockout bonus:huh

Well my point is really to let some of our boxing fans know that this stuff is going on in MMA...Plus those cats in there will make a million excuses and try and cover for some BS Just like the first guys that replied did.

honestly, if he was hinted to keep the fight off the mat because the promoters want the show to be more exciting, then i don't see the big controversy.

This story is true...this is one thing that keeps me from becoming a fan...in boxing, you won't see this. Although fans don't like B-hop or John Ruiz's style of fighting sometimes, you will never see a promoter try to change their style of fighting.

I think the main reason for this, is due to the fact that wins and losses mean more to boxers and boxing promoters.

For some reason, in MMA wins and losses don't mean as much. This is a much healthier mentality to a have in general, but it lends itself to a much more controlled and manufactured product.

I prefer the spontaneity of boxing.

Just out of curiosity are you talking about the Kimbo fight? I didn't watch it nor did I hear about the results. What happened?

what are you, a cop? why should the fans care if its ILLEGAL.

What matters is if its right or wrong, imo its ok to tell a fighter to try to keep the fight off the mat, if that will make the show more exciting.

Maybe its a little sketchy, but it sure as hell isn't a big controversy that everyone should be shocked about.

Well from the sound of it, I'd say it wasn't done to make the fight more exciting, MMA fans actually like ground fighting. It was done to protect a fighter who is a cash cow but does not stand a chance if the fight goes to the ground.

Then why not just pay him to lose??? What is the difference...You dont see that it has nothing to do with exciting the crowd, it had everything to do with them keeping Slice's hype rolling. Paying the guy extra to keep the fight off the mat is like paying a boxer not to use his jab in a fight.

well then why didn't they just pay him to lose? If it was all about keeping the hype train rolling, wouldn't they have just paid the other guy to lose rather than keep the fight off the mat and risk the chance of Kimbo getting knocked out?
