okay, im forced to make this thread because i saw someone in another thread say that if Toney wins its because of a lucky punch and not because of MMA skill... Toney should actually win this fight and rather easily IMO, however, we all know Couture will not choose to stand and fight like a man. Instead, he will try and drop Toney to the ground and pummel him. I am very intrigued by this fight, but to say that a lucky punch is landed on couture by one of the most skillful boxers of our generation is ignorant. Couture cant box like James Toney, period. He cant stand with james toney period. He cant stand with most pure boxers period which is why they have the little roll around the ground stuff. anyway, what do you guys think of this fight? dont be an ignorant MMA fan and say that Toney will be lucky to win. The man has 40- some odd knockouts with 10 oz gloves on, now hes wearing 4 oz gloves. Moved up from middleweight to heavyweight. i dont see a problem.
Toney is stupid for taking this fight. Hes old and his last few performances have sucked. Hes shot now and what the hell is he going to do when Couture takes him down to the ground. Boxing/Wrestling/MMA are three different things with little or no crossover ability. When people realize that all three will be better off.
Couture is not exactly in his prime and all fights do start standing up. So Toney does have a chance. Does anyone know who Toney has been training under for this fight?
the ufc does not do warm up fights in the octagon, they could have thrown toney a bum ass striker but no they wanted to give him randy.randy sayed he wanted to be the 1st to welcome toney into mma.toney has stated he only wanted the bigger names in the mma sport.toney has to take the middle of the ring, he has to be 1st 2nd and 3rd and then have a hellva sprawl.i hope toney can pull it off but i have my douts.
He has worked with Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal also who is the SF LHW Champ. Lawal said that Toney choked him out in training (standing guillotine) if he can hang with Lawal he may have a shot here..
I'm a boxing fan, and let me tell you that statement has to be some of the most ignorant **** I have ever read here. "Fight like a man" what are you talking about? Because he is a grappler? Because of that statement we all know you will never be 1/2 the man Couture or any other MMA fighter is. Stop this nonsense about Boxing vs. MMA. They are totally different sports and once Toney enters that cage he will not be a boxer, he will be an MMA fighter... He is a striker, so what? Best of luck to him and Randy and may the best FIGHTER win.
The man who can put the fight on his terms will win. There will be no "luck" involved other than the luck that is involved in all fights. Unforeseeable crap happens. The longer the fight goes the better a chance Toney has. Shooting takes a lot out of a guy. The more take downs Toney can defend, the slower the shoots will become, the easier the takedowns will become to defend, until... it is a "boxing" match. Randy doesn't really kick. Randy will pin you on that cage and beat the brakes off of you though. As long as Toney doesn't let himself get into a horrible position trapped up against the cage? I doubt Randy can dish out anything that will make James "quit". All that being said, this fight should be Randy's in the first 3 minutes. Not only is the ground game a little much to learn in a few months, Toney will be going at it with one of the grand masters of the ground game. Taken down, choked, or submitted. By the time Toney is being helped up he will barely have broken a sweat and realized he was in a fight. I am still rooting for Toney. Dana White is doing that ish on purpose.
two old guys fighting for the main event in a ppv and you are exited????atsch Has roy jones vs Bernard Hopkins II taught you nothing? Dont pay for this ****!
All styles are to be respected. I swear man it shows the ignorance of both crowds sometimes. MMA is not a style. It is a rule set covering combat. There are no "boxers" in MMA. Nobody is "doing" MMA. They are MMA athletes from various schols of combat. If your style relies on striking (punches, kicks, elbows) you are a striker. If your style relies on grappling(BJJ, Greco Roman, Wrestling) you are a grappler. Your respective style may follow a particular school, but you are by definition an MMA athlete. A boxer STOPS being a Boxer when he steps into an MMA tournament and become an MMA athlete classified as a STRIKER with boxing based strikes. May the best FIGHTER win.
this is some circus ****....... toney gets that ass crushed and mma boty boys profess how mma is better.... blah blah bull****
This fight isn't MMA vs. boxing, this is a pure MMA fight as it will happen under MMA rules. Toney is training MMA techniques for this fight, he won't go in there and just box. This is an MMA fight, not a boxing match. That's why Couture will win, as he's the better, more experienced MMA fighter - not the better fighter all around (Toney is an ATG), but the better MMA fighter. And this is coming from a big Toney fan. This fight won't mean **** for boxing (or MMA for that matter), not if Toney loses, and not even if Toney wins.
Juanito is a good trainer, he can realy show Toney how to use his boxings skill to counter the takedowns. :good This is getting interesting
