Whoa, if he can hang in there with King Mo he has more of a chance against Randy. Good looking out Bonecrusher.

    Standing Guillotine, nice :good

We also have to take in consideration that Toney is shorter than Randy so shooting may not be as simple as it sounds.

From what I have read (mostly in the MMA fourm) about Couture. He may not have the best chin in he world. Toney's best chance is an early knockout.
This may not be as easy as it sounds. Toney has always been a suck you in and counter punch boxer. Rather than an overly agresive one. Nor is he a dance around and keep his distance boxer.
Also as Toney has gotten older. Like many boxers he has lost some of his power.
In boxing when they clinch the ref breaks them up. In MMA when they clinch they keep fighting. Couture is a wrestler by trade.
If Toney's trainers are smart they would tought him some ground moves. He may surprise. Who Knows? The thing is Couture is much more experanced on the ground than Toney is. He may pull a move that Toney has never seen before.
If this were a boxing match Toney would win easy. In fact I don't see anyway that Toney should not win. However this is a MMA match, and while Toney has a chance. If he can some how keep the fight on two legs or if he can slip some hold on Couture before Couture can do on to him.
This is an MMA match not a boxing match. If a soccer team was to play a football team in their respective sports who would you pick to win.
I would pick the football team to win the football game and the soccer team to win the soccer match. This is an MMA fight I would like to see Toney win, but I'm picking Couture to win.

If Randy tries to stand up and box with Toney, He will lose...

But he wont, he is too smart and an elite wrestler. Toney has not much of a chance with the UFC rules in my opinion.

Got to strongly disagree. Boxers are literally MASTERS of fighting tired. The longer the fight goes the sweatier and more slippery they get and it gets harder to "go to the ground" because you don't have the legs to drive through the opponent and get him off of the ground. This is compounded by the body dynamics of Toney being shorter. However has Toney ever been GRAPPLING tired?

Second, it will be timing and placement that gets Toney's shots to be more effective. To speak on his power? A stiff jab becomes a KO punch in 4 oz gloves. Power won't be an issue.

If Toney is foolish enough to train for a boxing clinch he deserves what he gets. This ain't boxing.

The deciding factor in this fight will be Toney's ability to keep the fight standing. Defending the take down seems to favor Toney as he is shorter and probably heavier. Once the shoots become softer and further in between can Toney capitalize on the time spent standing up? That is the question.

I agree with you that Toney is going to have thae advantage whrn it comes to stanima. Both for the reasons you state and the fact that Toney is a very effecent boxer. If a knockout is to come for Toney it needs to come early. Once they go to the ground and Couture geta him into a hold. Things become diffrent. If Toney finds that his arm or leg is about to break or that he is having trubble breathing. He;s going to do the normal human thing and tap out.

well someone said it right by stating its not a boxing vs mma fight its a mma fight (with a over the hill boxer), while dana white is putting this on as a sideshow and a dis at boxing he can make after esp with toney not takin on a 'bum' but instead randy effin couture, it be curious to see if toney can land a solid punch on couture and what that would do

Something I didnt see anyone mention
MMA doesn't seem to be against a bit of juice. So I see Toney come in the fittest he has been since Hollyfield. And since Couture cant hurt Toney with a punch. Getting him to the ground will be hard. I see an elbow all but stopping that motion less Couture runs and dives at Toney.
I for one want to see the fight
    regardless of the outcome.

    No it wont..

Couture's wrestling ability is plenty enough to take Toney down at will.

It is extremely hard to stop the shot of an elite wrestler, many years of shot defense technique is needed.

toney will be defending the shoot all night. either a tko for toney or a roughem up against the change ground n pound tko for the geezer couture. i know both of these guys r near the end of their careers but i wouldnt take either one lightly. im just gonna make a crazy guess and say that couture will win by submission via rear naked choke.

If Couture wins, some dumb MMA fans will say "this proves MMA is superior to boxing". If Toney wins, some dumb boxing fans will say "this proves boxing is superior to MMA".

It will prove neither. All it will prove is that in this particular fight with these two guys, one style or game plan proved superior to the other.

Because you have never watched an MMA fight, lack a brain, and have certainly never tried to box with a world class wrestler trying to take you down.

I stand corrected:oops: it is on the undercard of bj penn vs frankie edgar II ppv.

This certainly is not a match to look forward to if you want to see the other fights by all means order it. but the whole boxing vs mma thing dont fall for it even dana white says its a freak show and I will (probably for the first time) agree with him.

I refuse to purchase ufc ppv, because I dont like the way the ufc does business.

I reapeat this fight is garbage good thing it isnt the main event. ohh and bj penn is going to destroy frankie edgar. Bj penn by rnc 2nd round.

Every time I want to be reminded of what stupid is I need only read something written on MMA by a boxing purist.

It never ceases to amaze me.
