I was thinking of a context that might be more fair between boxers and MMA fighters to meet and produce an exciting match for fans. It's pretty simple and easy to understand. San Shou (Chinese Kickboxing) You can punch, kick, and take the opponent down. No ground work or submissions. Example: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3r55mxK2xKc[/ame] How do you think the top MMA fighters would fair against the top boxers. Obviously any MMA fighters such as Cung Le who have done San Shou would have a distinct advantage, but others maybe not as much. A few matches to consider: V. Klitchko vs Velasquez Martinez vs Edgar Pacquiao vs Aldo (or Faber since he has a big name, would be lucrative) Go ahead and ponder some more if you'd like. I definitley added the two boxers with some kickboxing background, lol.
And San Shau is another form of fighting in between in which I think boxers would do well because there is more chance for stand up. If a boxing promoter was smart could make some big money and exciting cross over appeal. You would be getting fans from both spectrums which don't normally watch the other.
in this type of scenario all 3 boxers would beat the **** out of any mma fighter in their weight class.
exactly, boxing is boxing and mma is mma.you put a boxer in the octagon anything can happen alla mercer vs syliva or toney vs couture.put a mma fighter in the ring under queensberry rules and they are getting knocked the **** out.thats how i see it.
You need to read the first post. This is a hybrid match: punching, kicking, take downs. No ground work!
i did, what does a hybrid match prove.what could the ju jit and wrestling guys do in such a match.those two diciplines are most part of mma besides number one in boxing.
advantage goes to the boxer... ....hell klitschko and pac would dominate both punches and kicks...only chance would be a huge throw...bad enough to cause injury....its one thing to take a boxer down...but its another to do a huge judo throw when they are trying to avoid being clinched (yes i know Lewis got tossed by williams) Martinez doesnt have any kicks that i know...but i suspect he would still be fine.
moderator decided it didnt belong..moved it too mma...i would kind of have to agree with that assessment.
They could go for clinches and take downs to tire out the boxer. They would both have to learn leg kicks and destroy the legs, unless the grappler already was in MMA and had learned leg kicks. The boxer would get to come back up after each take down and there will definitely be opportunities to hit their opponent. I don't think it neccessarily proves anything inherently, but it creates novelty fights between two proven fighters in different disciplines in a type of fight that can both be compared.
is the boxer able to grapple and kick as well ? if so it sounds like mma fighters with different rules in the ring or cage or oct.
