Do you see the difference? You keep bringing this back around to a boxing match... that just shows how limited boxers are. In order for them to win, it has to be under boxings restricting rules which only allows fighters to use their hands. What good does that do in an all around fight? What good would that do for Floyd against someone in MMA, or an all around striking match that allows 4 points of attack?

People keep talking about how boxers would kill MMA guys in an MMA fight... yet, they are forgetting that not only are they an easy takedown for grapplers, but they are too limited in striking to hang with best strikers in the world too.

Boxing is great, and I love the sport as much as anyone. However, you have to realistic. I love it for what it is... it is BOXING! I love the beautiful technique and skills displayed by top shelf boxers. However, when discussing them in MMA, you have to realize that those same techniques are out the window. Nobody is going to box a boxer if it isn't a boxing match.

No, I don't see the difference. In theory a well trained martial artist could beat a good boxer. In practise there are no well trained martial artists in mma/ufc. The top boxers could beat any of those streefighters and make it look easy. You make it sound like getting taken down is inevitable. If it is then why is it so hard to take down a fat old man like Chuck Liddell? Any good boxer can move as well as Liddell.

Randy Couture did take him down, so have others. The thing with Liddel is that he is a former wrestler and trains ALOT in takedown defense and wrestling still. He understands how takedowns are set up, he understands how to control a guy on the ground and in turn understands how to counter all of that. Boxers don't. And I am shocked at the ignorance of your 3rd statement. "..there are no well trained martial artists in mma/ufc" :patsch :patsch :patsch :patsch :patsch

Widdow you have a point but your also missing alot as well. There are too many variables here and it really depends on styles. I'll compare a muay thai fighter to a boxer. If The Muay Thai fighter has never fought a boxer and vice versa, they are both going to be unprepared and out of their element. The Muay Thai fighter has elbows, knees, hands, feet and the clinch and the Boxer just has hands. The boxer could be murdered by leg kicks until he decides he has had enough and maneuvers in and then he will get murdered by knees in the clinch. He will have no answer for this. But if you have ever trained in Muay Thai, or well I'm sure you have seen your share of Muay Thai fighters in action you will see a weakness in their style that WOULD HAVE TO BE FIXED when facing a boxer (by 'weakness' I mean something a boxer could expose) and that is that they they posture up and practically fight vertical, this is obviously to avoid knees and to keep their neck out of reach for the clinch....I have never trained Muay Thai but I have sparred fighters who practice and one thing becomes brutally clear for them, and thats that they are wide open to a straight right hand. And it isn't something you can not fix between rounds, that is built into your style and you revert back to what comes natural while fighting.

A boxer like Cory spinks would be destroyed. A boxer like a Prime Tyson or Manny Pac would definitely have a chance at handling even the best Muay Thai fighters in a pure stand up fight. Not saying they would always win, but they would certainly stand a chance :good

You are out of your mind. There are no well trained Martial Artists in MMA? Streetfighters? Why, because Kimbo fights in MMA now? Why do you think it is that Winky Wright has said that boxers better stay away from MMA, or they will get seriously hurt? Why did he say that those guys are all round fighters, and boxers are boxers? Maybe he knows a bit more about the subject than yourself?

Maybe you didn't know that Chuck Liddell was a Division I wrestler in college? He has great takedown defense, BECAUSE HE WAS A VERY GOOD WRESTLER!

I'm still debating whether or not he is serious. I honestly don't want to believe the depth of stupidity there is in this world.

I agree. If you have a power puncher, who is at the top of the boxing food chain... there is always a chance that he can win a striking battle. However, dealing in likelihoods, as we can't predict the outcome of every match. The likelihood of a fighter who is only trained with his hands, beating a man who is trained with his hands, elbows, feet, knees, clinch, ect... is pretty small.

However, I disagree with you on the stance that a Muay Thai fighter would have. He would NOT have to change his stance, because he would not be fighting the boxer under boxing rules. It is the boxer who better change his stance in an all around striking match.

MMA is ok, especially with the addition of a Kimbo, who's has an impressive punching technique and power for an MMA fighter. Boxing and MMA are two completely different sports, MMA guys are usually well trained in one sport, and just know a little bit in every other, while boxers are commonly just masters of one combat sport, which is Boxing.

Look we can go round and round about who needs to change his stance and you are more right then I, because your right the Muay Thai fighter has much more weapons. I was just pointing out that they would both be vulnerable in ways to the other.....I've seen it happen and really its common sense.
Also Boxers only have hands, but Hands are the most dominant weapon. They are the quickest and most effective if you use them right. The question is would the Muay Thai fighters advantages be enough to account for the disadvantage he is going to have? In most cases yes. But there are some styles of boxers who would make it a nightmare for a Muay Thai fighter to try and deal with. :deal

Correct. I don't think there is any doubt. But everyone needs to make sure everyone else is clear that the boxer would most likely get beaten 19 times out of 20 in an MMA match.
