I like boxing much more than MMA but I don't really understand why some people believe that boxers are better overall fighers than MMA guys. To me it's obvious that in a real fight Rampage Jackson for example would whip the floor with Lennox or Holyfield 9/10 times.
not saying that boxing are better , but I am suggesting boxer would fair better in top level com mma then a mma would fair in top level boxing. Not only that but how much more effeciant would a boxer be if he was allowed to use his elbow and head butts. People forget just how good boxer are at throwing elbows and head butts, boxing has a lot of illigal tatict that are not allowed in boxing but is allowed in mma .
Anderson Silva is the only MMA fighter I enjoy watching and respect! I think he can hang with some boxers! But he is a Mui Thai cat so boxing is in his repertoire! It is not a surprise that he is dominating the middleweight division in the UFC!
Why is it that "martial artists" in the cage are easy to hit whereas boxing artists in the ring are difficult to hit?
It has a lot to do with the fact that they have to defend from a variety of diffrent attacks, not just punches to the upper body.
This debate is soooo tedious but I can't help but put my two cents in it and get out again! I would agree with pit to an extent but simply say that on a like for like basis, MMArtist would win in an MMA bout against a boxer, and as a boxing fan myself, i would have to admit that this would be extended to a 'no holds barred' street fight as well. SIMPLY judging on the skills set of like for like fighters and not considering whether a boxer/MMArtist may have been an underground fighter in the ghettos of ghettoville for hundreds of years. On the other hand, a boxer would win 9.5 times out of 10 simply becuase of the greater amount of technique required. I would like to say that i'm not biased but i am a boxing fan when it comes down to the bottom line but i would be willing to concede the said opinion that in a street fight, i would mostly expect an MMA fighter to win.
At the end of the day. A boxer wins a boxing match because he is a boxer. A mixed martial artist wins an MMA bout because he's a mixed martial artist. Who wins a streetfight? Who cares? But really the comparison is like comparing an American Football team to a Rugby team, they'd both smash each other at their respective sports, despite them being sort of similar in purpose.
Jay cutler and Ronnie Coleman.Would it be possible to armbar or takethem down? Seems to be an interesting point.
Dang that was impressive. The other guy looked like a novice. I don't know how much of that had to do with his skill or whether or not Silva is just that good.
What I saw was incompetence and lack of conditioning. It doesn't matter how big and strong they are when lack of skill becomes the issue.
