People are missing the point in regard to the MMA vs Boxing issue. This is about who will win in a streetfight with no rules, MMa fighter or Boxer?, MMA is the nearest to a true street fight. After the Toney fight it is obvious that the best MMA guy will beat the best boxing guy in a no holds barred fight. This is why boxing will loose its market appeal. People always thought the boxers were the best fighters. Now when people will look at boxing they will know they are just boxers not the better fighters. The question has been answered once and for all!!!. This also answered what would have happened if guys like the Sugar Rays,Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson etc would have fought the best martial artists and grapplers of their time in a true streetfight with no rules ?, They would have been raped.

atsch There's so much wrong with this thread it's unreal.. For a start, you seriously think James Toney, a 42 year old, fat counterpuncher was the best guy for the job? hell no. And comparing him to Muhammad Ali is even stupider. Fair enough, a top MMA guy is more likely to win, but they're going to have a lot more trouble against a tall guy with super long arms, like one of the Klitschko bros.. I do agree on the main point, but i definitely think some boxers have a chance.. + JT has no experience with Couture's type of fights
In a street fight, James Toney could have bitten Couture, scraped him with his nails and gouged his eyes.. Then he would have gotten to his feet and KO'd him with one punch. Also, in a street fight, no way the fight ends up on the ground like two homos going at it in their bedroom... Have you ever been in a street fight? Or seen one? So you're getting all this from a fat old azz James Toney losing to another old azz wrestler, who gives a ****, so what he lost a wrestling match to a wrestler, if it was boxing he would have without doubt KO'ed Couture and in all my years of street fighting i have never wrestled around on the ground with anyone or saw anyone else in a street fight wrestling and trying submit someone, your post is a joke, street fighting is at least 95% punches and people only tend to try to wrestle when they're getting they're azz beat up and this is from experience from personally fighting and watching fights and to say boxing will lose it's market appeal because of this fight is like saying football will lose it's market appeal because the Los Angeles Lakers beat the New England Patriots in a Basketball match, fukk MMGay, boxing is what that is, i love that ****!!
I agree with your point MMA is closer to street fighting than boxing, etc. Disagree with you about Mike Tyson. No rules - out on the street - I think Mike Tyson is a animal who would **** up the like sof Randy Couture. Coutures best strength - is do to do what he could do with Toney and choke him out. But other than that - Tyson is a animal - he would bite Coutures nose or ear off for a start. And he would knock him cold with one punch. Tyson is more suited to street fighting than boxing - he was nuts.
