I was watching some MMA and Randy Couture said he wanted for his next fight to be James Toney. Have to favor Couture. Toney is the much better puncher but his lack of experience in MMA puts him at a disadvantage and even though he'd big a big puncher in MMA I still don't think he is as threatening as a Ray Mercer would be.

Please dont make this happen its stupid IMO. Couture should fight a tough guy to get into a title shot not James Toney.

Ray Mercer wasn't a threat though or at least wasn't supposed to be one (not to any fighter with a brain)...Even Kimbo Slice had no problems finishing him. Yes he did finish Sylvia in what...about 12 or 9 seconds if i remember correctly...

And yet , all Sylvia had to do was to copy a simple gameplan , and take Mercer instantly on the ground. He didn't. He wanted to trade punches , better yet , he wanted to ko Mercer. Originally , this fight was supposed to be a boxing match.

Sylvia was 310 lbs for this fight too. (he usually fights at 263 lbs or so)

Here's the original (and hilarious) promo

Sylvia was just too ****ing stupid...and arrogant. As old as mercer is...his striking is still way better than sylvia's. You'd think that Tim would have the descency to respect that , avoid striking at all cost and just instantly take the guy down. (like kimbo did)...but he didn't.

I predict , that the very same thing will happen with Toney if his opponent (whether it's couture , lesnar , or anyone)...tries to stand with him.

I'm presuming that a guy like Couture , will just shoot for the legs...Hopefully he's not stupid enough to trade punches with Toney.

Any mma fighter with half a brain should just totally forget boxing when confronted to a pro...and use the rules to their advantage. Takedowns & subs are allowed...use them.

Sylvia did get a kick in but was blasted by Mercer. Funny stuff.

Couture vs Toney would be nasty viewing. It's the equivalent of Mark Coleman wanting to become a professional boxer, and being matched with Bernard Hopkins in his first fight. He would get humiliated. Couture is far too technical and experienced for Toney, it would be a horrible mauling.

    about the sylvia-mercer fight.

the worse part is the "boxing" match was changed to a mma match like the week or the fight. So Mercer only trained stand up his whole camp.

I would love to see Couture rip Toney's arm off and beat him with it.

If Toney is going to face a wrestler then he should face Couture because he is slow as **** and his punch resistance is lowering. Toney should be able to work the stand up clinch. If Couture gets a hold of him though, he'll be sorry.

I THINK Toney has lost weight though so that is positive.

That is funnier stuff. Wonder if Sivia would fight Kimbo? Or stay clear of him?

Toney wouldn't make it out of the first round against Couture. It is the equivalent of Randy Couture going to boxing and saying he wants to fight Bernard Hopkins. It ain't going to last long. But, I think Dana is going to give Randy all winable fights from here on out so, I think Couture/Toney is going to happen. I honestly don't see Couture getting a title shot before he retires.

Toney is training with Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal the strikeforce Light Heavyweight champion. Toney is saying that he'll choke Cotur out. Now that would be funny to see.

Why would you possibly need to bump this? There are about 4-6 threads right on page one about this exact same thing.

that is a stupid arguement, Toney is allowed to used his best strength which is boxing and couture can use his best strength wrestling and may the best man win however way they choose. putting Coleman in a boxing match isn't the same because boxing is only that.....just boxing.

I can't wait for this match. It's a classic match of styles. Grappling vs striking. It's probably going to be sadly anticlimactic no matter who wins - but it could also turn out to be something great.
