    Each year MMA pundits and media sources reflect on the previous 12 months of in-cage action and announce the fighter they consider to have accomplished the most.

    MMAjunkie.com decided to instead poll our readers to vote on the fighter they believe deserves the title of 2010 Fighter of the Year.

    Thousands of votes were cast, and four fighters earned the vast majority of the response. But by a narrow margin, one fighter rose above the rest.

    UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez earned the title of MMAjunkie.com 2010 Fighter of the Year by earning 23 percent of the total response.

    It's hard to argue with the 2010 accomplishments of the undefeated American Kickboxing Academy product. He started off the year with a first-round knockout of MMA legend Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 110 – becoming just the second person to ever stop "Big Nog" with strikes.

    Velasquez then followed that win up with another first round stoppage. This time it was a complete destruction of Brock Lesnar at UFC 121 en route to claiming the UFC's heavyweight championship.

    Velasquez's next move is currently uncertain due to a shoulder injury, but its tough to argue with his accomplishments from 2010

    Nobody has really stood out all that much this year, if you include K1 its obviously Overeem but I'm guessing they didnt.

    How about Werdum dethroning Fedor in 60 odd seconds by sub? Id say that was pretty significant. Or how about Edgar completely tooling Penn?

    For me Overeem should be all over this! He had two good wins in 2010 (I know Duffee has been overrated but he showed the gulf in quailty) and also got the K1 title... if you got on time scale he also had the K1 fight last new year so that is 3 wins in a 12 month period....

    If it was a UFC fighter taking to K1 title Dana would be out in the streets rioting and turning cars over Stanley Cup style!

    For me it would have to be The Reem :deal

    For me its definitely Overeem. DREAM title. SF title and K1. But this is for MMA not the K-1 so fans will rankle the point.

    I know what you are saying... it works one way one time and another the other time...

    If a fighter gets kayoed in a K1 fight all the MMA mags start kicking off about it calling him glassjawed and finish but if the do what The Reem did... tumble weeds :nut

    cain velasquez did give lesnar an asskicking he will never forget, that was something that MMA needed.

    But to me nothing can compete with what werdum accomplished last year.

    Overeem
    Jose Aldo
    Frankie Edgar
    Nick Diaz
    Dominick Cruz

    should be considered as well, each of them has accomplished as much or more that cain velasqez in 2010.

    Cain is up there but it can't rank next to beating the most invincible fighter in MMA history.

    It's Werdum or Edgar. Both those guys beat guys thought of as invincible at their weight. Edgar would get my vote for doing it over 10 rounds and winning 8 of them.

    Edgar, I agree with. Werdum, I snore at. Maybe it's just me, maybe it is, but I think Cain stopping Nog so quickly and destroying Brock is more significant than Fedor knocking Werdum's ass down and blindly going in for the kill only to be caught by a triangle armbar by a submission expert. Sorry, have to side with the UFC on that one.

    But either way, neither Velasquez or Werdum are the fighters of the year. In my eyes it's either Edgar, GSP, or maybe Rua. I would vote GSP just going by how absolutely dominating he's been. Oh, and Aldo of course.

    Cain KO'd Nog in one round and TKO'd Lesnar in one round. Overeem did the same to Todd Duffee and Brett Rogers. Sodomize yourself with a rusty pipe if you believe Overeem deserves the honors over him.

    So you actually give Cain credibility for stopping a completely shot to **** fighter but Werdum no cred at all for stopping the most improbable run in mixed martial arts history let alone ever vs the GOAT of MMA? :think
