Its interesting to see the stance from fans. Cain beats a shot great and TKO's a Pro Wrestler who has literally a handful of fights in MMA, but are yet willing to give that far more props than Overeem's DREAM SF title and run in the K-1. Albeit K-1 is clearly not MMA. Opinions like these is why MMA will fail as a sport to make the mainstream. Its clearly a popularity contest. UFC = ECW on steroids.

Give credit for decimating a fighter who'd been KO'd ONCE and wasn't took out completely til the second round and still took some damage the first time? Yes, yes I will. Drop your boring "DURR HURR THEY'RE SHOT, UFC IS FOR ***S" angle and you might get somewhere. And I never said I didn't give Werdum credit, I'm just not jumping on his dick because he got Fedor to tap. He's been almost caught many a time, it was bound to happen. It's not a huge ****ing surprise, man. It's called an aura of invincibility, not an undefeatable fighter.

a way the **** past it nog, and a far over hyped brock lesnar.

****ing frank mir ko'd nog in one round as well, over a year earlier.

also brock lesnar sucks, keep that in mind.

it would be hard to believe that overeem wouldnt wipe his ass with brock's face then proceed to knee his head out of the arena in the first round.

if you add in what overeem did in the k-1 gp then that adds to his glory.

if Gsp won gold for canada at the olympics I bet it would be factored into consideration for gsp being MMA fighter of the year.

this isnt p4p ranking here this is about accomplishment, kickboxing is a part of mma.

Etheir way I dont see overeem or cain as the clear frontrunner in this, I think werdum is.

I shudder when anyone insults Frank Mir, I really do. He's got knockout power in his hands, man. His chin isn't sturdy, but is it really any wonder against a Carwin or a Lesnar? Give the guy a ****ing break, man. Everyone loves shitting on Mir, it's so easy. Is it his fault he KO'd Nog? Should he be blamed for Nog being in too many wars? I really don't get it.

he has some power in his punches but he doesnt have special power in his hands like a dan henderson at his weightclass or Igor Vovchanchyn at heavyweight.

sure frank mir's punching power looks good against shot fighters.

He has enough power in his hands to finish a fight, that's all he needs.

What kind of ******ed reasoning is this? Mir gets shat on because he CONSISTENTLY fails when met with a legit threat. Mir doesn't just loose he gets OWNED. Freeman did it. Lesnar did it. Carwin did it. Pedepano did it. **** even Vera did it. And every one of those losses he got the snot beaten out of him. Champions dont loose in the fashion he does. He's a perennial contender and nothing more.
As for his win over Nog its utterly meaningless. Seeing as he's the UFC anointed legend killer why not face Mark Coleman? Its ironic to think that Mir fell in love with his striking after that bout. A few fights later he got PWNED by Carwin who's striking by any standard is mediocre. This is what happens when you face a "live" opponent. Not a fossil who is a shell of what he once was.

The site is called MMAjunkie and the truth is that Overeem has done **** all in MMA for a long time.

    Sorry Scurl. :p

I think the fighter of the year is Werdum for pulling off the biggest upset in MMA History, even though I'm 99% sure that Fedor would smash him to bits in a rematch.

Cain had a good year but i would have given it to frankie edgar. Beating bj twice is better than beating a past prime big nog and lesnar.

There was a time when Zherdog would report on the K-1 max and K-1 WGP finals.

But I don't think they've said a peep this year when Overeem won the WGP. :-(
