They backed him by giving him a lot of television exposure. And some of his more famous opponents looked strangely bad in losing to him. I'm talking about Rocky Graziano, who fought half-heartedly, and Carmen Basilio -- a far superior welterweight -- who couldn't seem to get untracked.

Technically, you're not right, but yeah man,I want to point out some of the most notable fighters that had a good record from their mob ties.

Sammy Gravano said on YT that Francesco Damiani was a mob fighter and they were trying to get him to fight Mike Tyson eventually for a big day.

When Damiani fought Mercer they were going to ask Mercer to throw the fight but for whatever reason they didn't think they needed to as they thought Damiani would win which is strange that would underesitmate Mercer like that.

Needless to say Mercer spattered Damiani's nose and cost the mob alot of money down the road.

The mob actually has a very poor track record with noses.

    Elaborate.

I read that Gravano trained in the same gym as Snipes and that they had sparred.
I doubt Snipes layed down against JLG - Renaldo was pretty much done by then

I think you’ve misinterpreted the point of the thread. It’s about mob associated fighters getting their asses kicked, as happened to Snipes against JLG. A mob figure almost got Snipes a title shot in the early 90s.

Jimmy Carter beating up Ike Williams.

Ike Williams held on to the crown until May 25, 1951, when he was stopped by Jimmy Carter in a fourteenth-round technical knockout at New York's Madison Square Garden. Williams had been sent to the canvas four times before the fight was called. Williams was down for a count of five and eight in the fifth.

Ah,I kinda forgot Ike was a mob fighter too,he was drained for the title fight but it's all fair game honestly.

He was like Don Jordan, honest and skilled fighters that had to use the mob to get title fights, although idk if his whole career and fights were set up by the mobs.

Carmen Basilio fought a guy… I forget which one, they came to him to tell him to dive with a heavyweight boxer as muscle and Basilo said something like “get outta here before I kick your ***” lol Basilio is so awesome an honest grinder who did his best every time - I love that he held a grudge that drove him so hard against Robinson over Robinson looking down on him or not shaking his hand I forget which one, privately Robinson didn’t respect Basilio despite what he said and Basilo knew it, I remember something about Robinsons death and Basilio essentially brushed it off and called him a jerk and that he didn’t care.

Ike according to Basilio was the hardest puncher he faced and not Robinson, Fullmer or De Marco etc.
