Yeah, clearly all far better and accomplished than Ricky (you might rank Hatton over Turpin if you were really trying) but again I think these are selected fighters: Chatty has picked these names for a reason

Yeah as Flea said I excluded certain names for a reason. Guys like Lennox, Naz, Wilde, berg etc are all the elite and I've seen lots of arguments before. All good fun still but I thought I'd do something different.

So I picked the guys of the last ten(ish) years who have been held in high esteem as the best of the best from British boxing and thought it would be interesting to compare them to guys of pre war era who were never bona fide world champs or big names but still had some huge fights and were top boxers.

On the subject of legacy do the new guys deserve to go straight ahead of these guys just because they won titles at a higher level and are bigger names yet i don't think there is much in it between a lot of them. Arguments might be easier for Calzaghe/Hatton maybes but for the likes of Haye/Burns I'm not sure I'd rank them ahead of many of the pre-war names.

Froch is a G. He's clearly surpassed Calzaghe IMO.

that depends what you mean by surpassed though, surpassed him in what way, remembering that Froch has lost to Ward and Kessler, and Calaghe not only beat a prime unbeaten Kessler for the undisputed championship, but put on a masterclass

does it count if he lost to said oppsition? including a Faded Kessler, think about that

Calzaghe lost to Hopkins IMO. If you add it all up Froch has a better record.

    IMO

I'm feeling the Jackie Patterson love Flea. Wonderful little fighter who I have a soft spot for as he grew up just a few miles up the road from my gran.

From the post was Brits, I think Conteh might have been the best outside of Lennox. I'm also one of the people who rate Froch's career as better than Calzaghe's, although Joe was probably the better fighter in his prime (but being incredibly talented means **** all if you spend 8 of your best years not utilising it)
