Sergio Martinez Vs Paul Williams II

Yes i do mean the REMATCH as opposed to their first meeting which many regard as a classic. The reason why i chose the rematch over their first meeting is because there's nothing more defining in Boxing then a knockout to win a fight and the knockout blow that Martinez scored on Williams is perhaps the most stunning one punch knockout of the 2000's especially considering this was in a fight for the Linear Middleweight Championship.

It was this fight that really established Martinez as a star even though he was already well into his mid thirties. There is no way someone would have prediced Martinez would ever become a star back in the year 2000 when he got stopped by Antonio Margarito in 7 rounds...just shows you can never write any one off in Boxing.

Thoughts and reflections of this fight?

Martinez Williams 1 is one of my favorite matches, 2 was great for the KO but not close to the first in terms of which one is more classic

Knockout for the ages. Still doesn't match Pac-Marquez IV (don't think anything ever will)

Both of these guys were what boxing really needed. It's a shame the elites had no real interest in fighting them in their primes, and for good reason. Pwilly looked like he was slightly ahead of Sergio in the rematch, looking like round 14th, before Maravilla landed one of the biggest left hands in history, on the iron chinned Williams. Both were a credit to the sport.
