Wladimir Klitschko Vs Lamon Brewster I

This fight was great, probably the last classic Heavyweight title fight and also the last defeat for Wladimir too. He actually looked awesome in this fight for the first 4 rds but Brewster showed an amazing chin and endurance to still be in the fight for the start of the 5th round and then finished the show.

There is no way any one would predict that Wladimir would go the next 10 years undefeated after this fight and become the dominant Heavyweight of his generation.

Thoughts and reflections of this fight?

Even Brewster in his prime wouldn't stand a chance against Stewart's Wlad.

    Wlad punched himself out.

In the end, was it best for career? Perhaps.

Manny Steward was in the corner for this fight.

Prime Brewster beats any version of Wladimir Klitschko, Lamon just had the style, punching power, chin and endurance to defeat always defeat him.

They had just linked up. It wasn't "Steward's Wlad" yet.

This kinda puts Wlad into perspective for me

I mean if any version of Wlad gets KTFO like this against a guy like Brewster then imagine what a Tyson woulda done to him.

Bare in mind that I really don't rate Tyson as highly as others tend to.

I think Vitali would have beaten Tyson but Wlad would get KO'd.

This was Wlads last entertaining fight in my opinion, and not because he lost. I disagree and prime version of Brewster beats Wlad though. I dont buy into fanboy excuses as to why he lost, the bottom line is he was beaten. But Wlad showed the ability to adjust his style and become next to unbeatable during his era. That Brewster wasnt the same fighter in the second fight or won the first is inconsequential. Wlad was always the better fighter, Brewster was just the better man on that one night.

Funny, Wlad doesn't get credit for revenge against "one eyed shot" Brewster. but Lennox gets credit for revenge against a McCall that he dragged out of rehab, and couldn't even KO despite walking around with his arms at his sides.

Joe Louis got outboxed and KO'd by a past prime Max Schmeling, Muhammad Ali got KO'd by Henry Cooper(Dundee admitted that he needed to cut Ali's gloves to give him extra time to recover), Lennox Lewis got KO'd by Oliver McCall.

Wladimir Klitschko's losses to Ross Purrity, Corrie Sanders and Lamon Brewster are not the proof of Wladimir's limitedness but the reason why he became the most dominant HW champion in boxing history. Like some of the greats from the past, he learned and improved from his mistakes and came back better than ever.

It's quite funny and contradictory. If Wladimir had avenged his loss to Corrie Sanders right after Sanders had his big money fight with Vitali since vacating his WBO title, the detractors would have said that Wladimir was "beating an old man" and "it proved nothing" or some other drivel but since he didn't have that pointless return fight, it diminishes his legacy in some way. As if beating an inferior opponent who upset you earlier somehow magically erases the result of the first fight. The only way one can truly redeem themselves from losses is to learn from the mistakes made in Wladimir's case learning to pace himself (Purrity, Brewster) and taking all opponents seriously (Sanders).
