With the modern day amateur having no headguard and boxing 3x3 minute rounds, 5x3 in the WSB are they in a position now where the learning the pro-game period should be a lot quicker. A top but not GB amateur will probably box 8 - 12 competitive 3x3 minute rounds per season, so surely as opposed to old days of 4x2 with headguards on and computer scoring are in a far better position to enter the pro game. I see Hearn is having a push for them to be moved quicker and more competively early. Taking the above information into account is there any need for these lads to be in 4x3 with journeyman for anymore than 3 or 4 fights before actually moving either up in rounds or quality of opponent?
well Hearn said hes about to sign "4 or 5" or "5-6" (cant remember which) of the new crop of amateurs so it will be interesting to see how fast he moves them on, especially with what he said about not wanting his fighters in fights that are basically walk overs for good money
Well Cheesemans onto 10 rounder in his 7th, and Davies stepped up relatively quick especially with very limited amateur experience. I'd expect Fowler/Buatsi etc to be new breed and having done plenty WSB no reason to be hanging around 4 rounders very long
Sure they are more prepared for the pro's Rigondeaux, Mayweather and some other boxers, fought for titles early in their careers, despite having amateur careers with that awful system. It's a shame what happens with prospects, but in the other hand, of all the 2012 gold medalists that turned pro, only three haven't won a title.
Yeah I think as it develops amateur success will translate much more easily to pro success, it's not quite the 2 different sports it once was
Reason amateurs today get a title shot so early as opposed to fighters in the older eras is because fighters in general don't have to fight the top contenders in a division to get a title shot anymore.
At world level maybe but their progressing far more quickly to British level, reason being WSB is essentially a pro format and anyone in GB is training like a full time pro which most can't afford to do even as a pro
