I wouldn't emulate his footwork but I'd say its good not great. Needs improvement but I wouldn't call it bad. Then again, I'm a Dirrell fan
I like the way he switches, he is very good at switching and using angles.... But the fundamentals of footwork are staying on balance with your eyes on the opponent...
Pffft, Vitali uses the ring better than Wlad does and Vitali is by far the slower, clumsier-footed of the two brothers.
wtf is defensive footwork, sounds like running to me. Footwork is extremely important in all fighters. If you look at all the champions/top dogs they all have excellent footwork, its almost a requirement. More than punching power and speed almost. Speed is def a close second
Damn near any of them. The dude dont have footwork. Chris Byrd had footwork. Nobody bar Wlad in the heavy division has any footwork.
Wlad has the best footwork in the Heavyweight division. He also knows well how to cut off the ring against very defensive fighters like Byrd and Chambers!
Two that immediately come to mind is Yuri Foreman and Chad Dawson. When hes thinking, Guzman uses it as well.
Its hard to have good footwork when you're flat footed like Wlad. I actually think Vitali's foot work is better ( especially against Arreolla).
I would say mayweather has the best feet in the game...Vitali's footwork is very very good for a big man...
There is a give-and-take situation between footwork and power from what I've seen, although this is not necessarily true all the time. People with great footwork are not those who sit on their punches and throw with a lot of power. I'm generalizing here. For example, RJJ had great footwork, but also had power. But in my opinion, he's more of the exception than the rule. Boxers with great footwork generally make better boxers than pure power punchers. Felix "Tito" Trinidad had minimal footwork, but he always sat on his left hook, and threw with conviction, and thus the power. Corrales had minimal footwork (IMO), and that's why he had power in his punches. The same is true with Mayorga, but Mayorga had great energy and body movement to make up for it. FMJ has a good solid left hook, but doesn't throw it enough, and has to time it just right. Arturo Gatti had minimal footwork, but threw powerful punches. Pacquiao's footwork is not bad, not the most advanced I've seen, but he doesn't need it to be since he has powerful punches. He also bobs and weaves, moves in and out at different angles, has rhythm, has the athleticism and speed, and a variety of other weapons at his disposal that he doesn't have to rely on footwork.
