Would you pick any of the giants who've come since to beat prime young Larry Holmes ?

    I'd say none of them.

I'd call Lewis - Holmes a toss up. I like Lewis in that one personally but have him over the rest.

I do not believe any of the aforementioned fighters would be able to contend with the prime Holmes jab. At its best it was a devastating weapon and what allowed Holmes to fight into old age.

Bowe, Lewis and both Klitschko Brothers would compete, definitely.

Thing is, Holmes was so Damn good at a lot of things. He had decent power, stamina, fantastic chin or recovery power and a ATG jab. So I don't see a lot of modern guys worrying him to much. A prime holmes I see defeating all apart from Lewis on his best day.

I can see Wladimir getting a close hotly disputed decision. While not as quick as Larry's, Wladimir has a pretty powerful disruptive jab himself and also the power to keep Larry from taking any unnecessary risks. With both fighters not renowned for their inside work, this could turn into a evenly matched, fairly uneventful stalemate and the decision left in the hands of the judges.

I would make Lewis a 50/50 proposition, and that is about it.

Holmes in 1978 got a split decision v a 34 year old Norton. You struggle with a 34 year old Norton, you don't beat a 25 year old Bowe. If any of the modern superheavies can do it, Riddick can. But only the best and busiest version of him, otherwise it's an even worse version of the Tubbs fight.

Earth to Boxingforum24......prime Holmes means 15 rounds..........the only one who can go a hard 15 IMO is Bowe and I give him the best shot into making into a war and getting the nod or stoppage.

WK will get stopped in the championship rounds somewhere between 12 and 15, he will just fold due to mental pressure which will sap all his late round stamina.

VK, not aggressive enough, his jab is no match for Holmes jab and VK is not winning points on a jab fest while leaning back.Fact.

Lemmie is 50/50 due to the right hand and Holmes when get hit would get mad on occasion and go tit for tat and Lewis might catch him. However Lewis was never a conditioning wonder and I think he would not be able to dictate the pace and will be forced to fight a "Holmes" match with relative high activity and that is bad news for him.
Also when Lewis faced a legitimate threat he played it very, very safe and most likely will get out hustled by Holmes over 15.

Bowe was a LAZY hwt. Larrys heart and jab would gain him the win.
