to be completely honest, I disagree with your title but agree with your post hahaha. I think modern fans dont give modern fighters enough due ever in any era, unless your hugely hyped like tyson. It isn't until fans of today see the next breed they start talking about how great the last generation was. but the examples you give in your post are spot on.

Doesn't Barrera still compete? If so he needs to be mentioned as a current ATG.

  3. Greats of this era.

As "fans" we are by definition biased. To what and how much depends. Most are biased towards another fighter (Fan 1 of boxer x thus tend to be more critical of boxer y).

Thus more hyperbole than normal ("GOAT", "P4P#1", "shot", "drained", "old", "exposed", etc. etc. etc).

I'm glad you see it that way :good

I actually like Wlad but whilst I'm not keen on Vitali, I don't really dislike him. The main problem I have is their overbearing fans who want to claim greatness or match either brother against past greats. That's really premature, I think, and if there was a legion of Martinez fans who wanted to argue that he's better than Monzon or Greb, I'd probably become a 'Martinez hater' in their eyes.

If a boxer is great, then there is no need to constantly argue about their standing. You don't see Mayweather or Pacquiao fans trying to argue for their favourite's greatness because it's self explanatory. There's no need to say "Pacquiao is great" because it's an obvious stance to have.

Certain fans just seem desperate to apply greatness to fighters who are simply undeserving. I'm glad this doesn't happen in the lighter weights but beyond welter, there are lots of rabid fans who are anxious to call the 'next big thing' as something they're not. I saw a comment about Broner and his potential greatness the other day and it shocked me. The guy is young, inexperienced and scraped by Ponce De Leon! He's good but a million miles off any talk about potential greatness.

Jack, just this once, I'm in agreement with you. There have been very few greats since Pompey.

People like to associate the great things, they participate in, make yourself feel better, but I agree with the mention of Jiangxi Copper Corporation, Whitaker, Morales, Floyd, PAC, Evander Holyfield, Lewis, they are really great warrior.

David haye will only be known for his Broken Toe fiasco and Potkvin are you ****ing serious.

    Trolling much?

  12. Haye is clearly an ATG CW, come on then ****, let's have ya, see if you can name me 10 better CW's than Haye? You can't, can you?

As for Povetkin do you really think they hand out Olympic gold medals down at Walmart? Do you think it's a coincidence that he's been able to beat top fighters like Byrd, Chambers, Chagaev, Huck and Boswell with such ease? Povetkin has a much better CV than Riddick Bowe and I don't see anyone dispute his claim to greatness.

So explain to us why you consider Haye an ATG and what did he do to earn that status?
