    Inverse of the other thread.

Any modern boxers you'd pick to do better in old school eras. Rules of the era of course.

John Ruiz? His style was more suited for the 1900s imo.

Mayweather was good enough to be greater with better competition around imo.

GGG would probably do well in the bareknuckle era of boxing.

Wilder's skillset wouldn't look out of place next to Jess Willard

That smells like another number 1 Thread idea.

Regarding Mayweather. Maybe. It’s really hard to tell. It depends on the era. There’s eras Floyd wouldn’t get a crack being a boring black fighter so he’d be forced to take on fighters and styles we know he wouldn’t if he had the same mentality. It’s hypothetical of course but giving Floyd the same mentality I think he struggles to make his mark. He would not want to fight slick guys and movers and may be too selective in his matchmaking to get himself into a good position.

To be honest, I mentioned him because I've watched the Castillo 1&2 and Corrales fights today, so he was in my head. I reckon if he was locked in say, Ike Williams' era, he'd have to chase big fights to get paid, I reckon he'd have adapted to suit himself best, even if that doesn't involve ducking and staying undefeated. I see your point though, refusing to fight the best during those times was a sure fire way to get blackballed, as was being a 'boring' safety first fighter.

1800's IMO. John Ruiz with good judo would be a fun watch.

Wilder's athleticism, ability to cover distance and speed would look positively alien in that era.

Good thing the Color Line would keep him fighting Battle Royales and fighting with the handcuffs on.

This thread has nothing to do with the color line. Why mention it?
