Wouldn't it be harder to find greats who hadn't been dominated/ko'd a couple of time in their prime? Not many aren't.

The thing about 'prime' it tends to be subjective and agenda driven and eventually such agendas become accepted. People now consider Tyson past prime at 24 and 30, he might not have been at his peak but past prime? But Lewis isn't past prime at 35 against Rahman?

Not during this time frame imo.

Lewis vs Rahman is borderline one for me.

And of course prime is subjective to an extent.Just try and post as fairly as possible.

And as we know any tangent debates that come about when discussing a certain fighters 'prime' is only a good thing.

Do I think Griffith was beaten by Paret? No but he was by LMR a few times.

Rodriguez himself is a good shout. Cokes beat him two out of 3, he seemed to 'dominate' the first from what I've read, and he stopped LMR (on his feet I believe, Benvenuti was first time he was dropped, past his best) and if you consider LMR did come off worse against Griffith he lost at least one.

So he's a fair shout also, though his losses don't define him like say, Shane Mosley or Don Curry, who had less bouncebackability. Mosley did better in that respect though, looked better (than abysmal first time round) in rematches with Forrest and Winky, clearly lost against Oscar second time round, then has one fight resurgence post peak against Margarito.

Didn't Anarci used to rank Shane in top 30 P4P of all time?

Nelson vs. Salvador and Pernell (i'd say the book-ends of his prime)

Toney vs. Jones and Tiberi (lol)

Benitez vs. Leonard and Hearns. Would say he was past it against Hamsho, though he should never have been facing a massive dude like that regardless

    Harada vs. Medel & Rose

Harada is a great shout. Lost to merely above average fighters too just before and just after his peak.

Mind you peaked in his teens and a lot of fights in less than a decade. You can let him off.

Curry did have wins against guys like Rosi and Aquino to be fair.I'd say that's as good as beating Margarito, though i know what you mean.

No shame losing to Rose and Medel either really. I'd say both were borderline great and would beat a lot of greats on their day.

Solid inclusions, though only Toney would have a shot at making it high in the top ten if we include Tiberi as a loss.He was pish in both fights.

Most of the other losses for those guys were more competitive(or understandable), especially in the case of the stoppages like Nelson great performance against Sanchez and Harada dominating Medel before getting reckless.

It's interesting this, certainly got me thinking.

I'd say gatti also, I'm not saying he's atg but being the hof is probably the highest compliment a boxer can ever receive.

Of course especially as he avenged one of 'em and the other took an ATG showing to beat him.

I agree with the last bit too. Rose suffers from a short prime and three very, VERY close and arguable successful defences. But he did beat 'dominant champion' Guts so he deserves 'borderline' status :yep

    What about LMR?

i'd leave Gatti out as he's not thought of by many as a great fighter.

Another fighter who I'd classify as great is Kenny Lane, and he had his cut stoppages (vs. ortiz, matthews).

If Napoles is getting a shout for his cut stoppages, chuck Kenny in there as well.

Ok then, fair enough, raising the bar a bit higher - Terry Norris
