I think a lot of fans get bigger confused with better. I keep seeing people saying that Lennox, vitali, fury etc. are the best heavyweights of all time. A case can be made based on the fact that they're bigger than past heavies but when you compare offensive and defensive aresenals, they're not the best.. wlad or Lennox aren't better finishers, or counter punchers than joe Louis, they weren't better fighters period.. but they would probably beat Louis because they're bigger and fatter than Louis was.

    Discuss.

    Bigger and fatter? LoL,

Bigger and thus more powerful the thinking goes. Plus if hight is a significant factor angles of attack is a big advantage.

Still have to have the relative skills to take advantage of it.

They're better head to head, I think that when comparing the heavyweights of different eras we'll just have to go with "pound for pound" criteria now because these modern super-heavyweights are basically like being a weight class above.

Its a stupid argument. Primo CArnera was 6`5 260lbs and joe louis laid him out. Skill is skill and ill take that over size any day of the week. When you have two guys of equal skill then you take the bigger man but if the little man has the edge in skill especially by a wide margin you take the little man. Ali would beat any hw fighting today and most with ease.

Primo Carnera was exotic for his time. He's nothing like the modern super-HWs.

Tyson explains it, right now the game is different than it was at the 90's, not to mention the 70's, athletes get better, technique changes, look at the world records at athletics, Bolt is just faster than Carl Lewis was

Fighters today get slated for bad opposition, joe louis' resume is abysmal.
The better names on his resume are poor alo g with the fact they were tactically and skillfully woefull

Ali was one of my top fighters of all time, without question one of the top fighters ever, but nostalgia and credit for fighting top fighters like quarry, chuvallo, patterson etc etc.the golden era was so great because these fighters arent looked back on as journeymen but top fighters.
Reallity is,liston looked awesome blasting out poor opposition, but take patterson out who was terrified he beat no one,and ali showed how tactically poor he was.
Frazier other than ali didnt beat anyone elite.
Foreman technically punched like a 4 year old but granted his power was immense.
Norton made his name off beating ali,no other signature wins.
Its not that they were supermen years ago its just history looks back fondly on them.
Lewis was called for most of his career but the more the years go by then hes appreciated more.
Saying liston or lewis or ali even would make light work of the super heavies of today is daft talk, they were great in their time, but they would be out gunned today no question

that goes for athletes in most sports. fundamentals are slipping away, replaced by athleticism.

Because he was stiff and unskilled. People of his size are now the norm (in the HW), back then the only people who were of that size were unathletic genetic freaks, so it's ridiculous to compare him with the likes of Joshua. He was what Valuev was to this generation and that's it.

How many people as big as Carnera existed in his days? There are 100 times more people of that size today so modern SHWs come from a talent pool that is 100 times larger.

You're argument can only hold water on a p4p basis, h2h of course they're way greater, they'd absolutely crush all past hw's.

This is the dumbest topic that keeps coming up. Only the truly ignorant continue trying to argue with pure ignorance bordering on adding stupidity and phucking reetardedness.

That's why it's only a selective few out of all the giants. 'LL, vital, wlad, Aj and most definitely DW to be included.

It's only the hw's that have that true talent to take advantage of their massive athletic specimens
