The most logical post here. You cant say "size matters and trumps all" then ignore valuev and carnera when it suits you. Either skill is more important or it isnt. You cant shift the goal post when its convenient.

Firstly, nobody says that and nobody arguing the case for modern SHW H2H ability is ignoring Carnera or Valuev, mostly because they support their argument more than they do the 'skills pay the bills' crowd. If size wasn't the most important (not to be construed as only) variable/aspect/whatever then those lumbering big giant oafs wouldn't have enjoyed the success the did.

Just look at the posters who liked that guys comment??lmao

How can anyone of credibility use Carnera or Valuev as an example that skill will always defeat size...how dumb was that??? :duh

the heavyweights of now have great fundamentals. there aren't too many old heavyweights from back in the day that could throw a jab as fast as ali or holmes, but both Klitscho, AJ and Parker have single punch and 2-3 combination middleweight speed. This is undeniable. The just lack the movement that past heavyweights had. Klitscho's last fight proved that he indeed had that much lauded movement

    why?

he is just like vitali but with better skills and the ability to become undisputed number 1 in the world.

r u sure you are not just saying that to hide your head in the sand from the obvious evidence because it wrecks your argument entirely?

Klitschko is as fast as a middleweight now???? Log off ans go home, youre drunk.

They didnt succeed. Thats the point genius. A goddamn 40 year old holyfield gave valuev the fight of his life and got robbed. Carnera was smashed by baer and louis. Ali destroyed Terrel and Wepner. Sonny liston also brutalized wepners face.
Shavers was the ONLY man to ko roy williams. Tyson demolished biggs, golota, and several other men who were 6'5 230+ lbs. Then of course you have dempsey smashing willard and rocky koing shkorr.

Bowe was one of your so called "highly skilled" shws and his entire legacy is defined by his trilology with holyfield. Holy was 6'2 205 lbs and gave him the fights of his life, winning one.

My point? You cant just ignore the two dozen+ examples of smaller heaves beating big ones and say ALL the big guys of the past had no skill because that makes no sense. After willard, no decent trainer was stupid enough to just have a big guy hit the heavy bag and do some pushups then put them in the ring with veteran 15 rounders without real experience or skill.

If you think all modern SHWs "easily smash the fighters of the past in 2 rounds" (and there are several posters who do) then Either:

A: you think the modern "highly skilled" SHWs are far more skilled than the heavies of the past

B: you think size beats skill. Take your pic.

For the record i DO think lennox, bowe, joshua, even wladmir are highly skilled and rate them in my top 15 h2h so dont lump me in that crowd. I just want both sides to be honest and not cherry pick and straw man.

Well I don't know how you are defining success but by most people consider becoming a world champ pretty decent. Not every man who fails to utterly dominate an era is a failure.

I don't. I think all elite modern SHW would be favoured to smash fighters of the past in X amount of rounds.
In some cases, some of these elite modern SHWs would be beaten due to tactics or the smaller fighter of the past holding a style and/or skills advantage. At least, that's how I see it.

Judging by the last part of your post we may not be that far apart in what we imagine happens when the cream of the last 30 years meets the best of previous generations.

If exceptions made the rules, the Cruiserweight division wouldn't exist.

Whatever mental gymnastics people may be performing to convince themselves size doesn't matter in boxing, keep right on backflipping. Boxing itself doesn't agree with you.

Have there been exceptions? Sure. That doesnt disprove the rule.

Because he didnt have the access that fighters today have. If he fought today he`d be as good as any most likely.
