Speaking of which, I was looking up boxing purses the other day for a different thread and it looks like Koki Kameda only gets 500-700k for filling arenas and doing the kind of television ratings that earned Mike Tyson 20 million dollars a fight back in the nineties. I hope he's getting something in endorsements and the back end of cable deals, because his fights have drawn thirty and forty millions viewers in Japan.

I'm not sure about the numbers but Khaosai Galaxy was supposed to be huge in Thailand, performing in front of massive crowds but only ever earning about 100 grand a fight.

To me a superfight isn't about how big a draw the fighters are or how much press or money they make. The superfight is strictly when two of the eras elite fight one another. Do to the intensely local nature of the sport Froch vs Groves was treated like a super fight in Britain. Mundine vs Geale was treated like a super fight in Australia. Acelino Freitas was a superstar in Brazil and 50 million people watched his wedding on tv like he was a member of the British royal family. Rigondeaux vs Donaire probably deserves the appellation, even though not much was made of it.

The difficulty with all these types of discussions, especially and including "p4p" discussions is criteria. Whats your criteria for a superfight, whats your criteria for "p4p" , etc.

Too often boxing discussions run in circles because the verbal combatants are all using their own definitions and/or criteria.

On the other hand, its also part of what makes boxing interesting.. as literally everything but an actual Knockout (KO) in the ring is ultimately subjective.

Most world title fights in Japan are on free TV in Japan (only 1 I think was pay TV and that was Kino****a Vs Tete, though Miura and Gonzalez were featured on a Pay channel doing a day of free service) which explains the huge audience and underwhelming pay. Also from what I gather the money isn't as big in Japan but neither are the general costs or the lavish lifestyles. They also appear to be funded somewhat by sponsorship as well as "Supporter clubs". Very different culture to what we have in boxing in the west.

As for Khaosai Galaxy the best person to ask would be Flea he'll likely be able to go into a lot of details there.
