Wilder hasn't ever fought against his mandatory. His title defences are against guys like Eric Molina, Johan "Pastry chief" Duhaupas" Arthur "soccer holigan" Szpilka, Chris "Fed him by with hookers" Arreola and Gerald "football player started boxing in his 30s" Washington. Is this the worst five title defences in boxing history?
It's not really debatable: there has never been a champ with 5 consecutive defenses this bad. 5 defenses and not a single one was even remotely concencus top 10. On the other hand, most champs can't get to 5 consecutive defenses, including plenty 1 and done types who fight and lose to Duhaupas level hws in their first defense. White Wolf and Briggs comes to mind.
It's a terrible run. Pretty shameful. The Eric Molina fight was awful. How the WBC put that guy in there top 15 to legitimize that bout was sickening. Arreola same thing. Szpilka You know what I'm not even going to go on- it's a terrible run. It's very frustrating too because if he lost the belt that he has hostage we'd probably see some good fights. Wlad may be gone but he fought everyone. Fury and Joshua stepped up. Parker fighting Takam, Ruiz and The other Fury is stepping up. (All younger guys than Wilder too) and Povetkin creaming decent contenders on the comeback trail. And here we get Tay lining up Molina, Arreola, Szpilka, Duhaupas. It's a farce. Even old man Ortiz fought Jennings and Tony Thompson.
Povetkin defened his WBA Regular HW title against Cedric Boswell, Hasim Rahman, Wawrzyk, and Huck. He lost to Huck imo
