I don't know who but somebody needs to crack down on excessive clinching. Refs may even have to start DQ'ing boxers to get the point across. I'm trying to watch boxing, not wrestling.
haha u beat me to it, Devon Alexander is one of the worst... This content is protected in This content is protected atsch
Molina did a lot of strategic diving and pushing/holding at Kirkland's waist - true. People seem to have completely blocked out of their memories the fact that Kirkland was also fish-hooking Molina and pulling him into a lot of upright clinches as a limiting measure to counter Molina's darting in and out. Like, a lot. Molina may have held more, but not exclusively. Kirkland held/pulled (mostly on Molina's upper body) a considerable amount. Molina held/pushed (mostly low at Kirkland's waist) a bit more. Molina edged him in CompuClinch #s, but it wasn't a shutout or even the one-sided domination people are making out. The end result was lots of holding. That's all people remember, and they just blame 100% of it on Molina when that wasn't the case. Or it isn't a case of bad memory and they're just too dumb to even have separated the ownership of the clinches in real time.
No ****, lots of individual boxers have held more than did Molina and Kirkland combined. Ricky Hatton, plenty of times. FFS, it just wasn't that bad.
The holding in this fight was ****ing horrible. I can't stand that ****. I can see maybe once or twice a round. But it was happening upwards of 3 times a minute, with no warnings of point deductions at all. Not even a stern warning. All the holding, combined with Kirkland's uncharacteristic sluggishness, made this a very boring fight to watch up until the knockdown... and then came the anti-climactic ending.
@ the witch hunt mentality here, convincing all these people that this was the most holding any of them had seen in years. Watch more boxing. :deal
There's grappling for position, inside fighting, brawling, mucking the fight up ect ect, there there is running forward in full Rugby tackle and plowing the guy into the ropes and holding him there.
Hey, at least Mosley did it AFTER he landed punches, Molina was doing it before he threw anything and then pushed Kirk back and then threw punches.
Landing lead and counter punches, shoving a guy back against the ropes, backing out, landing more punches, ducking under his arms and holding his waist, letting go, landing more punches... That isn't illegal or unfair; it's "ugly but effective".
