So Molina's style is Ruiz-esque? Well, as bad as Molina is to watch, it tells you how over-hyped/-rated Kirkland continues to be since he had no idea what to do to stop Molina from doing it and getting beat pretty damn easy until that ridiculous gift DQ. :-(
I don't recall the last time I've seen a fighter not just clinch but GRAB the ropes with both arms to PIN the opponent down, and wait for the ref to physically pull his arm off the rope to let go. It was beyond the bounds of standard clinch combat - he threw clinches in combination!
For those saying hypocrites, please shut up. I like Bradley, and Ward and they both have rough styles but I have never seen either of them have their opponent trapped in a corner on ***** street, getting blasted, just for Bradley or Ward to stop mid assault and start dry humping like Molina. I have never seen Bradley clinch for almost an entire round without throwing any punches. If I was a biased Kirkland fan then ok sure, call me out for it, but I don't give a **** about Kirkland and I hope Canelo knocks that fool (and Molina) out! And don't even get me started on Wladimir.
We should put some blame on the one getting clinched I guess. Kirkland needed to hold and hit, he was doing nothing but wait for the ref to take his time and eventually break it up. Bad performance by Kirkland too.
The thing that actually surprised me is that Kirkland wasn't even trying to retaliate, he just kept trying to fight "clean".
Kirkland shouldn't be in need to apply illegal tactics to counter illegal tactics, thats why we have referees in this sport. Molina should've been warned and penalized for his blatant fouls and dirty octopussian style. He's a disgrace to boxing.
Agreed. It's not Kirkland's job to stop Molina's tactics if they're illegal. If a boxer is headbutting, nobody would say that an opponent should elbow to counter it. It's the referees job to make sure that it's a clean, fair fight and he simply didn't do that. I thought Kirkland looked lethargic but a bit part of his struggle to get into the fight were because of these tactics. Instead of being allowed to work, Molina was smothering him and unfortunately, it made for a ugly fight.
Lol this is hilarious. Ward, Bradley, Alexander, Hopkins, etc, they all get a pass for it. But Molina? Nah. That guy deserved to have the fight taken away from him.
He did hold but he punched more. He landed more and he was easily beating James which isn't always easy. He adjusted his style to combat the only strength James had.....which is his power. By wrapping Kirkland up, contolling the realestate and smothering James it completely took Kirkland out of the fight.. but we saw that James is always dangerous.... He was just lucky the ref wanted James to win more than officiating at a championship level.
Top post Jack! :good I agree, Kirkland looked zapped off his energy, he looked kind of.. well fed in there, the hunger just wasn't there, and he was far too kind to Molinas dirty tactics. Whenever he'd get a spell of good combinations off, Molina would put a halt in the action and squid on to him, push him to the ropes and grab the ropes with both hands and disabling Kirkland to do anything in return. Kirkland looked bad, but... don't know why people feel the need to **** on him, he actually wanted to fight on, its not him stopping the fight, and it wasn't him spoiling the action. He was willing to take a few to get a few in. Kirkland did look a case of having left it in the gym ala Ricky Hatton, but we'll know next time he steps up in the ring. I'll never watch Molina again.
How do the fighters you mentioned get a pass for it?.....I've seen plenty of posters here at ESB criticize them for their tactics, especially British posters but when Hatton did it,it was all good. But Molina's dirty tactics were worse than what the four fighters you mentioned have done in the past.
Hate to pull that card, but that's exactly what it appears to be. We've got Alexander and Ward fans in here upset that Molina was holding and clinching
