I've been saying for a while now that Molitor's poor footwork was going to get him into trouble. Against lesser fighters he was able to get away with some awkward-type movement, but tonight he was unable to deal with any pressure. He needed to be landing counters, but could not. A lot of improvements that should have happened since he won the title never did. I'm wondering whether his switch from his trainer Chris Johnson (this was his second fight without him) had an impact on his poor performance and weak gameplan. This was a very important and winnable fight for Molitor if he just did some things differently. Disappointing fight.
I hate to brake my arm off to pat myself on the back but I side it would happen. This is what happens when you take a guy that has fought no one and put him in the ring with a proven banger.
My prediction on the other thread. link: http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showpost.php?p=2906813&postcount=34
wow. I had never seen molitor fight but there was alot of hype behind him. I remember people saying he would beat Vasquez and Marquez. I guess not. I see Caballero as 452453 steps below both of those 2 and if he destroyed MOlitor in 4 then no way in hell Molitor was for real. Now Vasquez should fight Caballero and relieve him of those belts. Then later on fight Lopez to seal off a great career.
I think that Molitor would do better vs those guys, Caballero is a pure banger and looks to put the guys head in the 8th row with every shot. For a guy that hasnt been in the ring with tough fighters that is the wrong mind of guy to have your coming out party with. Vs Vasquez and Marquez he would fair much better, they wouldnt be so wild and wreckless and that would have allowed Molitor to settle into the fight. Not saying that he would beat either cuz i dont believe he would, but he would fair better and likely finish the fights on his feet. Had he been put in tougher early he may have fair better, or he may have gotten whacked out earlier.
I agreed with you at first, but when I watched it a second time just now I dont agree anymore. In the first two rounds Cabellero D was pretty good. I think that once he know that Molitor had nothing on his punches he just went after him with no fear of what was coming back. If Molitor had more power Cabellero may have kept his D tighter.
But in a more classic style. Molitor was lost and had no clue what to do because from the 3rd on Cellebro was like he had five arms and Molitor had no clue were the shots were coming from, im not sure that the guy throwing them knew were they were coming from. Im not saying that he would beat either guy because he would, but with them being shorter and more classic he would have been more comfortable and able to employ his talents better.
The fight was a total mismatch. I had never seen Molitor before but I read he was solid. But he looked scared and didn't belong in the ring with Callebero. Its not always accurate to judge a fighter off of one performance especially if it their worse. But the Molitor I saw last night was painfully average. Callebero I've seen a few times and that was maybe his best performance that I've seen. Molitor was undefeated, had a title, and was given a good chance in this fight and Callebero blew him out. Good win. Vasquez beats Callebero. He gets inside and breaks the lean man down in a good fight but I'd comfortably pick Vasquez. Marquez-Callebero would be an excellet fight. I could see multiple knock downs. Callebero has a chance here because I think Marquez's chin could let him down but Marquez would be the favorite. I hope this fight happens next. Lopez would probably counter Callebero silly but then again he has fought a lot fewer rounds then Callebero and that could play a factor. But I think Lopez wins as well. If Callebero can't get a fight with Marquez,Vasquez, or Lopez I wouldn't mind a rematch with DeLeon or even a defense against Johnny Gonzalez.
You're right. Molitor looked clueless as how to deal with Callebero's style. With a Marquez or Vasquez he would atleast have an idea how to employ his strategy. He would do better because he matches up better and because he really couldn't look much worse than he did last night.
Where does Molitor go from here? Cabellaero has the world at his feet and should esily get fights with Marquez, Vasquez and Lopez. But Molitor has it all to do again. Hopefully he'll come back soon enough.
