i do agree that legacy is very important, but i think its beyond ignorant for people like you to criticize guys for trying to optimize their earnings in what typically are short careers at the top. If your fighting someone that can be made a ppv, ussually both guys are world class, its rare a guy can carry a ppv by himself. RJJ isnt fighting for legacy it is ego, and thats why most fighters continue on, its not about making their mark its about proving they are still as bad as they used to be because in their mind they still are. Frazier was fighting equally because he hated ali and because he cared about his legacy, and thanks for citing that example, because do you think when frazier and ali fought when they were both past it in manilla, that frazier could have gotten a bigger payday fighting any one else, no way in hell he could of, you just compltely proved my point with that, thanks alot. Why do you think ali fought hlolmes for legacy, no it was for 8 million dollars, thanks buddy for proving me right
Why can't they get paid big money while fighting in fights that would increase their legacy? It is possible you know. Some fighters go for high risk, high reward fights and others go for low risk high reward fights. Both fighters get a lot of money for it but if fans want to appreciate the former more than the latter it's their right to do so because they paid for it.
Bottom line: **** THE UGLYBOY AND ALL HIS MONEY!!! It's A SPORT!!! A GREAT MUTHA****IN SPORT!!! Not an ATM for talented assholes!!!
If you don't want to be the best then why do it. Every man wants to be the best he can be at whatever job he finds himself doing to pay the rent. If you do something for only money but not taking pride in what you do it shows. You work hard to get to the top and work harder to stay there.
Of course money is what they fight for. They ain't doin' this **** for free. Same with any professional athlete at some point. It's a job.
The 3rd Ali - Frazier fight was about legacy they were 1 a piece and knew that the winner would be remembered as the greater fighter of the 2 forever. Frazier would'nt have kept fighting when he could'nt see and risk his life in them last rounds if was'nt for legacy and pride, otherwise he would of quit early.
Im sorry but that is a terrible argument. Yes, there will be some people that will always give Floyd ****, but most logical fans would start to give him the respect he deserves. Floyd can't use the fact that a few idiotic fans will never respect him no matter who he beats as an excuse to not fight the best out there. As for the Marquez fight, i didn't mind Floyd fighting him. It was Floyd's first fight in two years so i never expected him to take on Pac, Cotto, Mosley in his first fight back. However, please don't try and make it sound better than what it was. Yes it is true that Floyd's extra weight made no difference as Floyd doesn't impose his size on people like you pointed out, but the real difference in the fight was how the extra weight to Marquez effected him in a detrimental way. Marquez was fat and slow and therefore couldn't fight to his best because of the extra weight. Now im not saying that if they were naturally the same weight then Marquez would win. Floyd wins that fight any day of the week no matter what the weight is, but please don't give me this 'he fought the number 2 p4p guy after a two year lay off' bull****. Yes, on paper he did, but if you delve a bit deeper (the weight issue) you realise that it is not as impressive as it sounds. Marquez was hampered badly by the extra weight and Floyd and his people knew this because the Marquez fight was basically a warm up fight for Floyd. And it was a perfect one. You take a guy who won't give you much trouble (a blown up 130 pounder) but he has the added lustre of being p4p number 2 and going life and death twice with the current p4p number 1. If Cotto or Mosley or Williams were the p4p number 2 do you really think Floyd would have fought them instead of Marquez?
